Howdy all.
I started this saber basically to test 2 new products, new to me anyway.
1) Aluminum Black. I've seen so many use it to great effect, I wanted to try it.
2) My new vinyl cutter ( a Silhouette Portrait ) I wanted to be able to create and cut my own stencils for etching ( this thing is awesome, if you're looking into an inexpensive cutter )
I cut and applied all the stencils, and etched the saber using the saltwater method. After that I fill in the etching with a panel line wash to make it pop even on a weathered finish.
All finishing done at home except for clear coat that I sprayed at work. A note on that: I added some flattening base to the clear to make it more matte, it's kind of milky/cloudy white in appearance. I added too much ( on purpose ) so it would build up in the nooks and add to the overall weathering. Love how it turned out.
That being said, the saber is as follows:
100% stock MHS - wasn't going for super fancy custom, just testing =)
NB3
16mm purple ring switch
bass speaker
charge port
tri-cree R,G,Rb resistored for purple
Used the TCSS grip strips for the 1st time as well for the fluted hilt. I JB welded them in.
Also if you've never used the spiky pommel, it's really loud!
Fonts on the saber-
Pitch Black by Lord Blako
Dark Energy by Baconwizard
Thanks for looking, this was lots of fun. Also the AV switch was completely weathered, but has worn off from constant playing with the saber, lol.
