Do you know if this product https://www.amazon.com/Testors-Spray...+spray+lacquer is a good to use for the clear top coat in a spot that may get warm from my hands? Yep, I use Dullcote all the time, you should be fine. Do not spray heavy. Thin even coats with time in between in the key. Keep in mind, that particular clear is matte, so your gold will not be glossy anymore.
There is no perfect rattle can solution, but these two I use quite a bit together with good results.
I was able to pick this up locally at an autoparts store for $7.
