Thread: First saber electronics check

    Default First saber electronics check

This is my first saber I am building. Never had a chance to make one and as a present to myself I am making one finally. For now I am just looking to make a yellow saber, no sound. After reading a bit this is the list of parts I came across to build the inner workings of the saber:

LED Trans White Battle blade 1" OD (24 inches)
    MHSV1 Blade Holder Style 24
Rebel Star LED & MHSV1 Heatsink Module
    BuckPuck 1000mA 4-wire
Push on/push off switch with black button
    Kill plug style 2
    1ohm 2w resistor
    7.4v Li-ion 1050mAh 14650 Battery Pack
    Switchcraft 2.1mm Power Jack

I'm sure I am missing something but Im not entirely sure what that is. If anyone could give me a hand I would really appreciate it. Thanks

The resistor is not needed with the BuckPuck.

Other than that, you have all the internals needed to illuminate your saber.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

Someone mentioned something about a mount of some kind but I don't see what they mean. I know that I will need something to mount the electronics to but Maybe I am missing something.

Yeah, you'll want a chassis of some sort. It won't need to be fancy, just something to keep your battery and BuckPuck from bouncing around inside the saber.

Does CSS sell chassises or do I need to make one? If so what can I make one out of?

Yes, the chassis parts are sold in the store.

"Yeah, yeah, I've heard it all before... you want blindingly bright, super loud, running 1138 blinkies off of the cheapest sound card you can find AND you want all of it to run on a battery the size of a dime, and run for a very, VERY long time. That one cracks me up every time..."

Is there a specific chassis i should look at or one that you guys suggest?

There isn't a specific chassis offered in the store, you'll have to figure out what parts you need to make the chassis for the electronics you're using and assemble it.

Right, what I'm asking is how do I know what chassis I need for the electronics I am using?

That's a bit like asking, "I want to build X out of Lego bricks. What parts do I need?" There are many different ways to do it, some easier than others.

I would suggest watching Madcow's video here: http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...s-construction and then looking through this section of the store: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Ch...Parts-C74.aspx
