Thread: Using a 9v battery?

    Default Using a 9v battery?

    I hope this is the right place to ask this;
    I was thinking of using a 9v battery for my saber for the sake of convenience.
    And despite seeing a connector in the store, I barely--if ever--see anybody using one (at least in the forums), so I was curious if it's not as good as the li-ion cells, or if it's simply a bad idea altogether.

    (Pretty sure this is a stupid question, so I'd like to thank you in advance for your patience.)

    It's a bad idea. While 9v batteries have the voltage necessary, they cannot output the current needed to drive a high powered LED. The very best 9v batteries will give you about 10-15 minutes worth of a dim blade.

    A single li-ion 18650 can give you up to 3 hours of a fully illuminated blade on a single charge.
    We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.

    Oh, I see. Thanks very much for the answer!

    If you look at some of the battery holders they are designed to connect to a 9Volt battery connector even though they aren't traditional 9Volt batteries, hence them in the store.

    While that may be true, using a 9V battery is still a very bad idea for the reasons SS stated.

    "Yeah, yeah, I've heard it all before... you want blindingly bright, super loud, running 1138 blinkies off of the cheapest sound card you can find AND you want all of it to run on a battery the size of a dime, and run for a very, VERY long time. That one cracks me up every time..."

    Sorry, I was talking about things like the AA battery holders.
