Thread: 7.4v (2X 18650) with MR Board

    Default 7.4v (2X 18650) with MR Board

    I know it's already been asked a dozen times or more on this sub-forum, but I can't find a definitive answer.

    I'm making a string blade running off an MR board (an upgrade to an '06 Maul). I'd like to do it off 7.4v but don't know if the stock MR board will handle it. Current will probably be in the range of 1.5-2.5A.

    Does anybody know for definite?

    Yes it has. 7.4V is too much for a MR board.

    OK I see Makato showed a big improvement using 1X 18650:

    AFAIK this saber also uses 3XAAA (the same as my Maul). Presumably an 18650 wouldn't be enough to overload the board given the above link. Thoughts?

    An MR board will run just find on a single 18650, I've done it several times. Just make sure you use an led that requires 3.7v or less to run.

    The smart way is to use a voltage regulator for 5v. So you have always exactly 5 volt. The MR boards should be working great with 5v.
    That was my plan for my Lightsaber BUT there is not enough space for 2 accu 18650 (in a hasbro with originalboard).
    At the end its what the others said. One 18650 is perfect and easy und 7,4v is to much for the board. Btw the 18650 have a higher voltage if full. 7.4 volt is only the nominal voltage.
    I think the end voltage of a 18650 was 4.2 volt. So 2 full loaded 18650 can have 8,4 volt.
