Stabilizing Circuit Boards
Hey, gang.
What (if anything) do y'all do to stabilize circuit boards inside your sabre hilts? How do you keep 'em from banging around under rough handling, and potentially breaking a soldered connexion or shorting out against the metal of the hilt? Do you, for instance, use some form of project box? Is there a heat element to be considered... should I avoid wrapping the whole thing in, for instance, electrical tape?
Take a look at the different types of chassis that people use. Heat shrink is much better than electrical tape.
Sometimes people use bubblewrap or foam to keep things from rattling inside for stunts but thats not ideal for builds with sound because the swing and clash sensors work better with a proper chassis ime...some people use 1.25" PVC plumbing pipe inside MHS and cut out places for components like boards or batteries to rest on for a chassis but the modular chassis disks/threaded rod system in the TCSS store looks better imo.
Ah, thank you... I wondered what the chassis disks were for. Do they fit inside the MHS bits? Tighten along the rod until the board is held securely?
I actually sealed mine in heatshink and then stuck them into the hilt held by double sided tape. Work perfectly so far.

Chassis Disc style 1 is sized to fit between male/female sections of the hilt pieces. Read the description for the disk (http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Ch...oles-P595.aspx)
Then use the MHS builder and put the pieces together for pommel+main body+blade holder (for a quick example) then turn on internal view. You can see exactly where those disks would go. (caveat: I'm only just now planning out and putting together an order for my first saber but I've spent a bit of time researching it; that should be correct. Not sure how many type 1's you'd use... maybe just 1 to lock down the whole thing?)
