Movie Blade Color Guide - Blue -- THE SAGA IS COMPLETE
In this thread, I'll go over specific screencaps from all six movies and try to figure out which LED color is closest to the screencap. Feel free to chime in and give me your opinions, as well.
*All Original Trilogy screencaps are straight from the 2004 "GL's True Vision" DVDs, not the "theatrical version" DVDs.
The Phantom Menace:
Trade Federation Droid Control Ship:
This one looks like a combination of Blue and Royal Blue to me.
Trade Federation Droid Control Ship:
Royal Blue.
Theed Courtyard:
Royal Blue.
Theed Hangar:
Somewhere between Blue and Royal Blue.
Theed Generator Room:
The Royal Blue coloring splashes everything in this shot.
Theed Generator Core:
Royal Blue, through and through.
Overall: Royal Blue.
Although none of my posted pictures show it, Obi-Wan's TPM saber has a thin blue or cyan layer right next to the core, with a Royal Blue edge. Overall, the Royal Blue luxeon is closest to that effect.
Attack of the Clones:
Zam Wesell's speeder:
Royal Blue.
Coruscant nightclub:
I call it "Mystic Blue". Sort of a mix between Blue and Royal Blue, with a unique fading effect.
Jedi Temple:
All the blue youngling sabers are a strong Royal Blue.
Kamino Landing Platform:
The rainy background does some odd things with the color of Obi-Wan's saber. It looks more Bluish in these two pics.
Tusken Raider camp:
It's Blue here...
Tusken Raider camp:
...yet switches to Royal Blue only a few seconds later.
Geonosis Droid Factory:
Ah yes... more "Mystic Blue"...
Geonosis Arena:
Plo Koon and Ki-Adi-Mundi's sabers look bluish...
Geonosis Arena:
...yet others look Royal Blue.
Geonosis Arena:
Okay, these are just here for the cool factor.
Geonosis Arena:
Royal Blue.
Geonosis Arena:
All of the blue sabers in this shot look mystic blue.
Battle of Geonosis:
Royal Blue.
Geonosis Hangar:
Royal Blue.
Overall: Tie between Royal Blue and "Mystic Blue"
Yes, I know "Mystic Blue" isn't an LED color, but that's what it is. It's basically a blade with less color than normal, which alters the way the blade looks.
Revenge Of The Sith:
CIS Command Ship:
This entire sequence is consistently Royal Blue
^Man, I hated that guy. so glad he's dead. ^
Utapau:
The color here oddly changes to blue.
Outside the Jedi Temple:
Ah, but here we once again have Royal Blue. We missed you.
Mustafar:
Once again, we have complete consistency. Royal Blue all the way.
Overall: Royal Blue! Wow, for once Lucas actually pulled through and gave us a near-unwavering saber color. It's a shade lighter than straight RB, so a low-bin Blue luxeon should work great.
A New Hope:
Obi-Wan's house:
This one looks pretty bluish, with a hint of cyan.
The Cantina:
Somewhere between Blue and Royal Blue.
Millennium Falcon:
GREEN?!?!?
Millennium Falcon:
Somewhere between white and cyan.
Millennium Falcon:
Very cyan-looking to me.
Death Star:
Royal Blue.
Overall: A very light Blue or Cyan for Luke, and Royal Blue for Obi-Wan.
The Empire Strikes Back:
Hoth rescue:
Blue, although it's hard to see through the background.
Battle of Hoth:
Blue.
Tree Cave:
Bluish-cyan.
Tree Cave:
Blue.
Bespin:
Royal-Blue.
Overall: Blue, although most of the final duel was Royal Blue. A low bin Blue should be just right.
Revenge of the Jedi teaser trailer*
Jabba's Sail Barge:
Looks multi-toned; difficult to tell. However, it has the signature cyan-core-with-dark-blue-edge that only Royal Blue has.
Overall: Royal Blue, but it's honestly just too badly drawn to know for sure.
*The blue blade was changed to green because, as the picture shows, the color washed out against the Tatooine sky, and became nearly invisible.

You mean thelightsaber.com? Yeah, I've seen that. Great site; it's where I first found about all the color-changing in the Falcon scene.

As far as colors go in the movies remember they are just painting over the existing frame (originals at least the pre-quels were digitally done and therefore much cleaner colors). Thats the reason they needed to change the blade in ROTJ as was pointed out. Since the background was constantly changing you can tell in the poorly roto-scoped shots.
So no matter what the sabers are going to look different based on the setting.
