Masking your paint area with tape is perfectly acceptable. I usually do a few light coats, and remove the masking material after the paint is dry/tacky to the touch. If you wait until the paint is fully cured, you can sometimes peel up your painted area. Clear coat helps with protecting the paint.

Do you use spray paint or what?

I use spray paint, yes. The wife gets upset when I grab her artist brushes since I can never seem to clean them well enough for her afterwards.

UPDATE: Hilt is ALMOST finished!!! First pic doesn't have switch installed but second switch does. Only thing left is making a focus disc adapter to thread onto the lens for the laser and making an 8-32 hole in the side of the hilt for a covertec wheel!

Is it the M9x0.5 thread for the lens? I picked up a bottom thread bit for those... still haven't used it I have a couple lasers I need bigger focus rings for.

By the way, that hilt looks great!

Thanks man! I may have a buyer for the second lightsaber hilt Ehgemus made me. That should help recoup costs. Of course, I just paid 36 bucks for overnight delivery of the hilt you see above so I am not doing myself any financial favors. Lol.

PS - Yes the lenses are M9x0.5 but I will just be using AixiZ housing and I got ehgemus to make me a focus adapter for it.

hahaha this isn't about that F word... (finances/financial/finance/etc), cause if it were... who spends a hundred on a lightsaber/laser? needless to say a grand!

For the housing, is it the Aixiz, or did you get a copper module from DTR? I got a bunch of those coppers when they did the first or second run of those.

hahaha thanks for the chuckle SS

lol no no, the question was if finances was a big deal. I know many have spent money like that and I'm sure I would if I had it... but finances is still too big a word in my house which is why I don't have an MHS hilt yet. I have so little money available for my hobbies that building a PVC saber made me cringe at the price. haha honestly though, the hilt was the cheapest part.

Yeah it is a copper module from DTR.

And the cost of this lightsaber was pretty high in and of itself. Here is the breakdown:

    335.00: Diode Module w/ G Lens
140.10: TCSS Parts - Blade Holder 20; Choke 1; Pommel 4; Covertec Parts
116.00: Custom Hilt Work + 1 Day Shipping(I am impatient)
    020.00: Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive
    020.00: Solder Flux
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------
    631.10: Total Cost

Which is, needless to say, more than I have ever spent building a laser haha.
