Thread: can i run a red p4 on a 1000ma buck puck?

    Unhappy can i run a red p4 on a 1000ma buck puck?

I am a newcomer and I just ordered (2) red p4 kits and i think here was a mix up in my order. my order says that the kits are being sent with 3.3ohm 5w resistors instead of 4.7ohm 5w.
I have (2) 1000ma buck pucks coming in that order as well for a future project that can wait....which means i can use them for this if they will work. being electronically challenged I thought better to ask the saber gods if this was possible.
any info would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks in advance

you can indeed run the p4 on a 1000ma buck.
i have a red p4 running 4AA's the 1000 buck no resistor and run like a champ it does.

you should be careful 1000ma could blow your led I believe, or atleast reduce the life I think the 700ma puck is what is what usually used.

    P4 red specs
    FV 2.3v
    current 350ma/800ma

    so be careful.

The P4 red will run at 1000mA. Just be sure it's securely attached to the heat sink, and there shouldn't be any problems.

The rebel red will not be happy at 1000mA. It's safer to keep those at 700mA.
We all have to start somewhere. The journey is all the more impressive by our humble beginnings.
