Obi-wan pommel D-ring

I've been researching the forums and have not seen to many set ups like this. I actually have all the parts. D-ring from an old Kobalt, Obi-wan style pommel (style 3 v2). A good drill press with a tilt bed.
Anyone done this before? Ideas? Suggestions? I have a few of my own but wanted to bounce around a couple before committing.

Asking if there's a better idea than mine. Wich is drill two holes at an angle, on either side of the raised part of the pommel. Open D ring, fit ends into holes, close shut?
Oh come on, is it really that simple? Other than wasting your time (sorry btw), I'm almost sorry I started this thread

not wasting my time lol, i see what your asking. You have a drill press that will adjust to angles? if so I would start at a angle and dril into it but not far... just far enough to make a straight drill afterwards.

Well did the measurements. Put the pommel in the vice, tilted the bed 10 degrees, drilled the hole less than 1/4 inch on one side of the raised part of the pommel. Reversed the tilt to the oppsite direction. Put the bed to exact zero and drilled straight down through both "pilot" holes. Doing it was easier than asking about it LOL
