Yep, it was a fixed blade version. Took quite a bit off effort to get the knurled pins out of the blade holder but eventually they gave up their hold.

The converted version has an in-hilt recharge port (between two of the grips towards the pommel), the speaker has been upgraded to the TCSS version and some minor modifications were done to the blade holder. It is very loud and very bright. Just like a Vader should be, IMPO.

loud is good - the one in the movie was super loud and you could hear it a mile away. ^_^

well mine is a older one (both of mine actually) so I'm going to play it safe and not go over 6v. I already have to get 1 repaired and don't want to "smoke" it

you can disagree all you want, but the older versions of the boards will go up in smoke with more than 6 volts. I've seen plenty of pictures in my many years on these forums of burnt-out MR boards that someone tried to power using 7.4 volts from Li-Ion batteries.

I have seen 1 or 2 tolerate 7.4V, but in general Jay is 100% correct. Now, you can indeed use a 5 or 6V regulator with a 7.4V pack and an MR board. I will also echo what Jay said in that a 4.8V-6V NiMH pack would be the sweet spot. (4) 1.2V NiMH = 4.8V and (5) 1.2V NiMH = 6V..both can be done. Good luck.

Perhaps the newer boards are more resilient?
