What I usually do is powdercoat the piece using the dark color first to get it down into the nooks. Then I sand the outer edges down starting from a rough grit sandpaper and ending with ultra fine. Then I meticulously cut out the thermal tape into little strips and cover the little nooks. After powdercoating the bare aluminum I peel off the thermal tape to avoid any possible scaring and put the piece back in the toaster. 10 minutes later, 2 tone powdercoated grooves.
