i was thinkin the easist way to power the 15 Watt would be to make it an archaic lightsaber design and have an external power source (Motorcycle battery on a big belt?) For the inside just a basic straight steel tube with a copper heatsink a small computer fan to keep stuff cool. basic switch and no sound. that should work. i just want to this for the heck of it ya know?

Or have a long hilt, say 15 or 16 inches to stuff batteries in. I just don't like the look of archaic sabers.

As long as you have the proper ventalation for the heat sink, you should be able to pull it off. You would definately need a copper heatsink and vent holes both above it and below it. One thing you may want to do is drill a bunch of holes in a pattern and then put some kind of mesh wire around the hilt. It would provide both ventalation and also add some bling.

That would be cool! I was thinkin take the heat sink and drill hole in the sides and in the bottom for a small computer fan. I could make a long hilt. It depends on the voltage needed to power the 15 watt 1500 mA LED. I'm lookin at what 12 Volts maybe?

Somebody posted these extremely small fans a few months back. I just remember their company logo was an ant hanging from the bottom of one like he was riding it.

what about those little hand held fans, if you could resistor it to work of li-ons or whatever it might work.

Tried this, and no, even with a copper heat sink, with extra fins, and vent holes even a 10w gets hot. I didn't even have a hilt on it, so it had the entire airflow of the room around it and it still gets hot. Sure 1000 Lumens sounds good, but realistically, A) 1000 lumens can be outshone by 150 lumens and a good optics and bladefilm setup. B) even if you have that same setup on the 1000 lumens (which is hard because of their unorthodox design) you still can't overcome heat issues. Plus, there are better ways to produce 1000 lumens. If you have a Makototsai style blade, with an LED string of high bightness LEDs, 60 LEDs at 20ma draw, and 45 Lumens each produces an even blade, of 2700 lumens for only 6W (assuming a voltage of 4.4v).
