I have that book, the pictures read like blueprints which was really helpful in figuring things out. If anybody know a good resouce in to the Early DS9 Obrien Uniform or Pattern, I am planning on making this my next one. As for prop kits how detailed do you want to go, might have a couple or resources.[]

Do what I did, pick up a chunk of BASS wood from the hobby shop, wood shop or craft store. Download the plans for the phasers
    http://www.racprops.com/issue4/class...er_blueprints/

Print the plans to scale, then glue the side section onto the wood and carve and sand the wood to match the side view. The glue the top view on to the carve and sand the block to match the top view.
I have a band saw that does most of my carving. A jig saw, or coping saw would work also.

Finish sand to suit your tastes, laquer and sand to a smooth finish, then add detail parts and paint.

There are small images on the web that you might be able to enlarge.
LDS suggested the tech manual. I would imagine there is a similar manual for Next Gen.

Just Google image phaser or phaser rifle and see if you can find an
image that you can use as a plan.

A run through here can always be useful.[]
