Thread: Mounting gemstones on/embedding stones in a hilt?

Default Mounting gemstones on/embedding stones in a hilt?

Is it possible? Let's say for instance that I have a gem of a certain cut; what's the best way to stick that in a saber hilt so that it will both stay firmly in and still look good?

I'd say that if you drilled a hole and had the gem mounted on a stud earring setting, and then set the stud in the drilled out hole.

I might suggest two screws at opposing poles, each of which can slightly tap into the gem a little bit, thereby holding it in place.

For added certainty that the gem will stay, you might slightly drill out little grooves/holes in the gem so that the screws recess into the gem a little bit... maybe 1/4"? 1/8"?

Do you mean mount it to the OUTSIDE or the INSIDE?

Mostly on the inside, but with enough of the gem exposed that you get good reflection.
