So now that I'm getting a better work schedule, I'm going to have a bit more time on my hands and I want to get morei nto saber building. some of you may know me over at FX-Sabers. I post 3D saber designs. In fact, I'm working on a "Gralfex Katana" lightsaber. But that's a ways off and I want to get cracking on some other designs sooner.

I searched through TCSS (shocking, I know, someone actually used the fantastic search tool. BRILLIANT!) But I couldn't quite find the info I'm looking for (or my eyesight really is that bad and I totally missed it). Basicly, I need some advice on shopping for a lathe. Brand name to use? How old is too old (ala craiglist)? ect?

I'm looking for one with a variable speed so I can turn not just metal but wood as well to make some wooden sabers and wooden accent parts. My price range is around $250-300.

You know? While writing this I thought, why not make it a resource for others? For those that want to know from those that do, can we get some advice on lathes? What do you use? Things to be aware of, like tool types, brands to stay away from, ect? Especially, anything related to modifying/customizing MHS parts?

Thanks in advance!
