Thread: Adjustable LED Driver

  1. #1

    Default Adjustable LED Driver

Cool addition Stryder. This looks pretty versatile. Good find. Now we just need the Modular Electronics System where you can stack different round pc boards like this together to configure your custom configuration. One sound board + one control board + couple driver boards = The MES

Interesting. The description says 6 constant current settings but I notice there is also a solder hole marked "pwm"...what is that for on this driver?

I was wondering that too. I know it stands for Pulse Width Modulation.

Is that a control point that you can feed a PWM signal to? That would come in handy for blending LEDs to make purple. Use 2 drivers and turn down the red a little, that would be awesome.

    That is very cool!

But why wouldn't you just buy a buckpuck for the exact current you need?

Sometimes people want to change their LED down the road.

Also to get 1400 mAh you have to put two pucks together. Tell me which is easier...two pucks or one of these drivers?

Also I know Tim doesn't sell them (but they may be available) but is there a 800mAh puck, how about 1500mAh or 1200mAh?

It has its place and I will be ordering some.

First, they don't make buckpucks in all of those current ratings. Second, to get 1500ma you would need two 700ma pucks which..of course is only 1400ma wired together MAYBE. Third, you get the fade on/off effect with the driver, and unless they took it out of this one, clash shimmer, and standard blade flicker. You can't get that with a puck.

Plus by the time you buy two pucks to get 1500ma, you could have just bought the driver. Its a MUCH better price now. Would be a good addition to the Sabersound board that was HORRIBLY lacking any kind of driver and lighting effects.

    Ah, good point Zook!

So you would want to get one of these if you used a Red or Amber LED...

    Cool.

    EDIT:

I see now there are 2 new drivers!
one for the LED with the PWM that gives 1000ma constant current. (I wonder if you could pull more current out of it...)
And the other that you are able to adjust the current output.

Cool stuff....I'm seeing some new innovations on the way!

I like how you could mount it side ways so it wouldn't take up any hilt length. And multiple boards like this would be a great idea.

I am kinda curious what exactly this is capable of aside from an adjustable buckpuck with a cool shape, and also how they work for the settings and wiring.
The LED+ and - are obvious but the rest is....over my head.

I dont see any clash pads... (anywhere)..

and the PWM pad are unclear to me as well.
