Default So, what do you do for a living?

I was just curious about what y’all do for a living. Past, present, and future.

Myself, I went to Vocational school for Auto Body and got a job at a Body Shop during my senior year, and worked there for just over 4 years.
It was good work, it was gratifying, and low stress. But the pay wasn’t that great on the high end. I was doing rather well for my age at the time. But I wasn’t too fond of the “Bondo-Buggers” and other health risks (Like sterilization) and I got greedy. A $7.00/hr. (49%) pay increase over 4 years wasn’t good enough for me… What was I thinking?!

Currently I am an Independent Auto Damage Insurance Appraiser.
I basically write appraisals for damaged vehicles and argue with Body Shops all day.

I hate it, it sux, but I usually get home at 11:00-12:00 everyday and make more than my wife who leaves at 8:00 and gets home at 7:00. And she went to collage! lol Oh, but wait... She likes her job...

I am patiently looking for another career. Maybe something in construction. I have talked to my boss about getting into the Home and Property end of the buisness, but I'm not too sure that will solve my problem with this job.

I am taking a Bartending class right now and hope to get into a nice bar soon to pick up some extra cash. And who knows, maybe it will be lucrative enough to support us with. Some bartenders in the Boston area make 6 figures! So you never know.

    So what do you do?

Short version is I am an electronic technician that couldn't stand being couped up so I took my talents to the electronic security industry. I used to put in really top notch, custom stuff in residential, commercial, and industrial applications. Back in 98 I hurt my back pretty bad and ended up getting some surgery, healed up went back in the field, moved up to management did that but ended up back in the field after one of our moves. Hurt my back again and I have been watching the kids ever since. We sat down and did the math and figured out by the time I paid all of my work expenses that on a good week I would bring home enough to cover the daycare on three kids and a bad week we would be paying for me to work in a job that I didn't love anymore since everything has gone to the “free” slap it in alarm equipment. I am doing the online classes to finish off my degree now and I figure one the youngest goes off to school I will head out on a new career.

Well... since I'm still in school I don't make a living at it but I can tell you what I hope to do.[]

I'm going to complete my bachlors for architecture and I'm hoping to get a masters degree in acoustics. I'm very involved in music so hopefully someday you all will be sitting in a concert hall I designed.[]

    Meh, I haven't done a whole lot.

    - Worked at Publix as a bagboy
    - Work as a graphic artist for The Salvation Army (present)

Been doing the graphic gig for almost 5 years now, and was promoted to Lead Graphic Artist about 3.5 years ago. Whoo.

Now, though, my wife and I will be moving to North Carolina, so who knows what'll happen next.

Ah, and on the side, I do a lot of freelance commission work for anime artwork.
