Thread: Joe Jedi and Red Lux III Setup Questions

Default Joe Jedi and Red Lux III Setup Questions

Did quite a bit of searching today, and alass did not find answers to my most basic of questions....

Is it ok to run a Joe Jedi board with a red lux III using 4 x AAAs? Or should I stick to 3 x AAAs?

I've seen threads that say yay, others that say nay...others that say Red III's are ok...

    Thoughts?

Also I saw a thread that asked the question but never got an answer (from last year) where if I had a lux III wired to a buck puck that had the dimmer leads, if that were hooked up to the joe jedi led output would that actually control the led in a way to get the power up/power down effect?

    the short answer is.....

    yes, 4 aaa is OK

no , the board will not control the puck that way

    Thanks Arm!

So basically I am going to want a DPDT switch and a buckpuck (or resistor..buck probably but I have a resistor ).

Going back quickly to my Q about the Lux III red being directly wired to the LED out..any danger in that?

The Joe Jedi board does not have enough current to power the Red Lux III.

it will run it, but it would only be getting about 1/4 the current (amps) it needs to be at its optimum performance/brightness. Reds run best at about 1400 mA, the joe jedi only puts out about 350 mA (I think). Optimal setup would be 2 700mA pucks run parallel whitch would add up to the 1400 mA.

Hmmm, trying to think of how to cram this all into a sinktube hilt
    A 1 and 1/4 anyhow

You can use a Red/orange Lux I and it works fine.

A red Orange LuxI properly driven is just as bright as a Lux III in my opinion.
Got a Question? There's a thread for that...

I have been able to get bright even blades with the Lux I driven with even the economy hasbro boards. I have been very pleased with the results.

Hmm, well, I've got a Lux III and no buckpucks and no desire to spend more $$ on two more (30 bucks yeesh lol) so it'll be a resistored setup for the time being or direct drive, whichever i feel looks best..may even use the existing tri led if I don't care much.

Using a thin and shorter blade anyways.
