Thread: Too Good To Be True

Default Too Good To Be True

As I was poking around looking at rechargeable battery options, I found
"639-LS14500CBA" batteries over at Mouser with the following specs:
Lithium Batteries 3.6V AA 2700 mAh BUTTON
Since they are not listed as protected, I'm guessing they don't have PCBs. However, I haven't seen any other AA size Li rechargeables rated that high on mAh anywhere else - so I'm guessing it's probably lower.

Has anyone tried these or something similar?
    (I did try a search)

well you have to be careful. I was looking one day at Li-Ion batteries and found some with really high mah like that but none of them were rechargeable batteries.

PCs are really cheap and easy to solder on though if you find some that are not protected.

Yeah, I know the non-RC's can run high. This search was with the "rechargeable" filter selected but I also have had misgivings about that.

    [EDIT]
I've sent the folks at Mouser an inquiry. Hopefully they'll look in to it.

I do have to point out that Lithium batteries are not the same as Lithium-Ion.

Lithium batteries are usually what Energizer and Duracell call their "High-Power" batteries. They do have good runtimes, but they aren't rechargable. I would guess this is probably a misfile into the rechargable catagory on Mousers part.

Yes, that occurred to me as well but if it is a mistake (and I think it is) they misfiled multiple batteries with similar specs - there were several very similar to the one I mention in the first post. It could be a wide-ranging (and serious) mistake they need to fix.

According to the data sheet below:

The parameters seem to be correct.

    Mouser hasn't responded anyway.
Thanks for digging up the specs. I couldn't find them before.
And looking through them, I would say that Mouser did indeed make a mistake - under the warnings it clearly says not to recharge them. the folks at Mouser have some work to do methinks.
