    Default help with claw mounting.

well heres the knife i just bought and i plan to use the knives as claws for my next saber.

i wont go into details about it. i just want YOUR opinions on how YOU would go about securily mounting these blades on a blade holder. i was thinking mill some small slots so the knives fit snugly in and then either using JB weld or Kals favorite goo: superglue and baking soda. i would prefer a more exact and precise method involving screws bolts and clamps.

so help DJ out peoples? thanks

I will not give you any advice on how to attach those as I don't want to be involved in any lawsuit down the road. But please think very carefully how you do this. If you plan on using this saber for dueling I would very highly recommend not using them. If you plan on taking this saber to a con they will not let you in the door with it. If you are just going to use it as a 'wall hanger' or 'shelf queen' then you might be able to get away with it. Please consider the safety implications of using sharp edged knive blades on a saber.

Erik is just telling you why it's a bad idea, and saying that he won't offer advice.

I agree, putting knives on sabers is a bad idea, even if they are dull.

Dull or not, if you hit the saber hard and one of those 'dull' blades come flying off the saber and hits someone and causes an injury, you will be in for a world of hurt. I am not offering advice on how to attach them, I am offering my opinion that it is a bad idea from a safety standpoint. Don't want to take my opinion then that's fine - I am not going to loose sleep over it. If someone gives you advice and the unthinkable happens then both of you will bear the consequences of that advice.

Ace is making very good sense here DJ, it would be prudent to listen to him.

I am also going to make a lightaber with knife blades claws... but them I'm 40 and will do darn well what I please no matter what anyone thinks... even if it's a bad idea. Spar with metal swords (edges and tips dulled of course)? Yup, I'll do it... as long as it's choreographed. That's the freedom of being an adult, I can be a stupid as I want to be, lol.

You however are a minor and it would be irresponsible for an adult to offer advice to a minor on how to make something potentially hazardous. That said, minors often frequent this forum so it would be irresponsible for anyone to publicly offer the advice you are looking for, on this forum (I certainly won't "condemn" anyone for doing it though).

The saber that I will eventually make that will have knife blade claws, will not be sold publicly (pics of it will be posted here but nothing of it will be posted on ebay). I might sell it privately to someone 18 or older but not to anyone younger. It would be no different then me selling an adult a sword or knife (which I personally have no problem with). I may just keep the hilt. I don't know.

That said, please understand where others are coming from when they tell you they won't offer advice other than to not do it. They have good reasons.

I wish you the best of luck.

    Bad idea.

    As bad as lightwhips/scourges/nunchuks.

Yeah, it may look cool, but someone WILL be injured by it. Should ARKM, or any of the other members above the drinking age do it, then it will be used responsibly and certainly not be take to 'Cons or in public.
Also, Jedye's knives were dispaly ones, so are barely sharp and more likely to snap.

You want an opinion, here's mine:

    DON'T ADD THE KNIVES.

Being so great, the owner of these wonderful forums and attached shop has filmed how to build an MHS hilt, here's the link:

Looking at the item in question, aside from the potential hazzard they may pose, I don't think they would look right asthetically or be particularly easy to mount.

The idea of claws is a good one but I would consider something else.
Obi-Wan: "If you spent as much time practicing your saber techniques as you did your wit, you'd rival Master Yoda as a swordsman"

    Anakin: " I thought I already did"

Obi-Wan: "Only in your mind, my very young apprentice"
