Default Hello From Downunder and help!!

    Hi Everyone,

My names Sarah I'm currently trying to get together a Mara Jade saber.
I have know idea what else i need to complete my saber( well i have a rough idea but need help).
So what i need is the electronics and blade.
This is what i have already:

    > 1x MJ FX Emitter / 1"Blade holder
    > 1x MJ FX Saberbody
    > 1x MJ FX Endcap
    > 1 set MJ Grips (12x)
    > 1 set screws for grips
    > 1x MJ Controlbox (finished)
    > 2 Buttons for Emitter
    > 1 set screws for Emitter
    > 1x brass covertec wheel
    > 1x LED mount / Headsink
    >
    > 1x M4 Drill
    > 1x M4 Thread tap

And this is what i need (apparently):

    1x 1" Blade (35"/36" long)
    > 1x Soundboard (Hasbro, Master Replica, Ultrasound 2.0 or Placter Laps)
    > 1x On/Off switch
    > 1x Battery Holder
    > (1x Resistor)
    > 1x Luxeon III Star LED
    > 1x Luxeon III Lens Holder
    > 1x Luxeon Collimator Lens 5 deg viewing angle
    > 1x Speaker
    > gauge wire

So if someone could maybe just give me a list of the links to these items on this site, that would be awesome, because kinda stuck and need to purchase these asap!

    Thanks Sarah.

Welcome Sarah...some of my best online friends on other sites are from Downunder so it's nice to see an Oz gal here...as for your saber needs I'll offer these suggestions:

Blade: Corbin style show blade http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/LE...-OD--P227.aspx

Soundboard: Oh boy this could be a long discussion...right at this moment there are no soundboards available here @ TCSS...there were a few Ultrasounds available a day ago but they sold out almost instantly. Soundboards are a bit of a 'bottleneck' in this hobby...the fancier ones like Ultrasound and Plecterlabs Crystal Focus are made in limited production...Erv Plecter actually soldiers his cards by hand! And right now we are 'between runs' of both of those. We've been told to expect a few dozen Crystal Focus will be made available in August but there will be literally hundreds of people trying to buy them the minute they go on sale...last time they sold out in less than ten seconds...so the odds are not with any of us...it's random chance if we get lucky or not so you cant count on getting one. We also have no ETA for the next run of Ultrasound but expect it to be several months. There is a new soundboard in development for an expected release in late August but since I have not heard if the TCSS store will carry it it would not be appropriate on this TCSS site to discuss how you might get it unless the owner here Strydur indicates he will stock it. Therefore your best option for sound right now is to buy a Hasbro Force FX saber and strip it for its soundboard. Sorry I have no better options to offer you on that and no link here except http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Ha...ible-P385.aspx if you are willing to do that - the Yoda soundboard is nice and small too which always helps.

On/Off switch [ http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Switches-C23.aspx] depends on what type of soundboard you do use. Master Replicas/Hasbro FX boards use latching switches [Plecter Labs can use that and also uses a secondary auxiliary switch], Ultrasound and TOY Hasbro boards use a momentary switch...until you have a soundboard its hard to make a specific recommendtion.

Battery holder depends on how much space is in your hilt but I like the compact 4AAA holder [http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/4A...lder-P133.aspx ]or if there is room in your hilt the 4AA [ http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/4A...er--P134.aspx] that both deliver enough power for what I *CAN* recommend next:

That instead of a LuxIII you order a Seoul P4 white LED [http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Seoul-P4--P306.aspx] ...it will run off a MR/Hasbro FX board nicely and will deliver THREE TIMES the brightness of a Luxeon III.

That is important for a Mara Jade saber because purple sabers like Mara's are most commonly achieved through the use of filter discs [ http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/12...cs--P164.aspx] on white LEDs which reduces brightness...starting out with a much brighter white LED like P4 helps compensate for that.

Resistors you do not need to worry about if you are using a soundboard that also has an LED driver built in...they perform the same function internally so a resistor is unnecessary. The MR/Hasbro FX card like in the Yoda above doesnt need one to run a P4.

I've only used one P4 myself so far but IIRC it uses the Lux III/V lens holder [http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Lu...lder--P7.aspx]

    I'd recommend the 5 degree lens [http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Lu...angle-P4.aspx] for a 36" blade.

    For speaker: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/Pr...aker--P77.aspx

    For wire: http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/26...wire-P284.aspx

    Hope that helps and G'Day.

The only thing I see that would be better would be to go for MHS or, Modular hilt System for the body of your saber.

She's already got the hilt parts, she just needs the electronics.

I'm guessing, by her "(apparently)" she's just getting the rest of the parts she needs and someone else is going to be building this saber for her.

I can vouch for the brightness of the P4 (blinded myself many a time), and the wide variety of colors you can achieve with the store filters! Looking forward to see the end result!

For the Toy Hasbros you'll need a momentary switch. Try to get the new "force action" (spring loaded blade) ones. They can handle 6v. Check out this thread http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...ead.php?t=8589
