Thread: MR maximum voltage

    Default MR maximum voltage

I'm new on lightsaber making, and planning to overdrive a MR FX vader's lightsaber. Could someone please tell me the maximum voltage of a MR board could take without burning it?

The question is why apply over voltage to the sound board and risk damaging it?

"Overdrive" it for what? I'm willing to bet that what you want is better described some other way.

If you want a brighter blade you're SOL. LEDs have a maximum flux and anything beyond that will kill your LED. It's not like a CPU where you can flip a switch or setting and it's faster, jamming more power does not equal brighter.

If you a louder saber it's the same too, more batteries does not equal louder. You COULD add an amp but space is an issue so I'm not sure how well this could be done.

You can run 6 volts to the MR board, and if it's stock, the blade will indeed become brighter since MR doesn't run the LED's in their blades at a full 20ma each.

Thanks, I want to use CR123 lithium batteries (3v) on the MR board with different body, or even rechargeable one (3.6v). Since different batteries have different voltage, and MR FX vader use 3 AA (4.5v), I want to be sure the maximum voltage and put in a resistor if need.

[?], why has MR stuck with 3 then? Dumb on their part.
