Thread: Lens and holder

    Default Lens and holder

    Hi, sorry to bother folks...but I've searched all I could and it seems this is too big of a dumb question for anyone else to have had. I got my parts in today, and I was going through the box to make sure everything dry-fit correctly. I cannot get the lens to stay in the holder unless I put it in upside down. I have:

    Luxeon III / Seoul P4 Electronics Kit

    * 4AAA battery holder
    * Blue
    * Collimator Lens 5° viewing angle
    * 2.2ohm 5w resistor
    * Push on/push off switch with black button
    * Luxeon III/V Lens Holder

    Is there something more to mounting the lens in the holder, or do I have a bad holder? It seems like the catches on the top of the holder do not extend high enough above the rim to latch into the lens. Here's a picture i did in Paint that may show what I'm talking about:

    Can I take a hobby knife and make that lip bigger, or will that damage the holder?

    Another silly question, my kit only had one nylon screw in the bag, and this town seems to have 0 4/40 nylon screws. can i use a metal screw there and just insulate the head of it from contacting the LED pads?

    I just take my dremel and cut off those little tabs on the blade holder. The lens will sit fine if you do that.

    Does the lens stay seated if you do that?

    I use a thin hand file to file away a little bit of the *INSIDE* of the tab and then press the lens in. I dunno if you want to cut the tab off completely, but in theory, the blade holder should help tamp down the lens once everything is tightened down.

    I just use a little clear epoxy and glue it onto the LED. I don't use the holders and have never had a problem, Just me. I sure someone will come along and tell me why I'm doing it wrong.
