Yeah, that's one of the few times I've ever seen Novastar speechless.
Solder tape would be a bad idea to try and use on an LED. You don't want a lighter anywhere near an LED emitter. I don't think it would work anyway, for that.

I'm not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save us from these non reading noobs, Superman!!!
Do not use electrical tape/ masking tape/ pixie dust for your connections, SOLDER THEM!!!!!
And heatshrink over the top of them.
If you don't wanna use a buckpuck as your unsure with your lack of experience, then don't.
PLEASE, go back and read through, not just scanning the links, ACTUAL READING.

Being so great, the owner of these wonderful forums and attached shop has filmed how to build an MHS hilt, here's the link:

Is he just great to you all?
I agree with Barmic, they need to solder the connections. No tape, no butt splices, no glue or anything else besides solder. It is just asking for trouble later on down the road if they don't do it right to start with.

taking my time this time... reading as much as I can. had a quick customs question tho.. before I pick my hilt..

has anyone used this hilt before? I am curious if inbetween the "ribs" an O-ring would fit. with glue most likely...
alright back to reading...
J-Lo, you might have experience with these. When I built wiring harnesses at Boeing for 737 Aircraft, we used solder sleeves to make wire connections.

Very strong and superior to traditional soldering. You just slide on a sleeve, line up the wires and heat each end with a heat gun, then heat the middle and the solder band melts. The connections are water and air tight.
However, you will still need to solder the LED in the traditional way.
Just an option. Just make sure you have the config. you want before applying the solder sleeves as they are hard to remove. Trust me, I used to have to rework other's mistakes before we shipped out the wiring harnesses.
No, I've never seen those before.
They are kind of cool, though.
