I am not a big fan of the boxes either. They get in the way when dueling.

As for the boxes, some designs won´t turn out well without one, IMHO. I usually tend to have the box on my Anakin ROTS a little lower than my thumb, opposite direction from my palm, and feel comfortable like that. A matter of ergonomics, I presume
