Take a pic of your setup and post it here.

Makes it easier for us to diagnose your problem.

OK, here are some pics of my problem...

Firstly, the resistors were originally all lined up parallel (one wire on + one wire on -) down the board.

Secondly, the two wires at the top were the + and - posts.

Your pic is very confusing. and it just looks like everything is connected to the pos and neg separately.

NO I don't understand Breadboarding... And I don't have a shematic, just instructions like PIN1 to NEG etc.)
    Here's the website- http://www.instructables.com/id/SIBH9RZFX557TKA

I don't really know what I'm doing I guess. Could someone start me from scratch and give me some pointers on this???

I've never wired with resistors in paralell either... (I don't know how.)

    Default Hope this helps

Well, this is my first post on this site, so I hope it's construtive. I've been lurking around reading for about 2 months, and have a couple pvc sabers in my kids hands. Planning two MHS builds for Christmas.

Anyway, as someone who has taken schematics off the web and reproduced them physically, and as someone who IS NOT an electrical engineer, here are a couple suggestions that may get you going, or allow the forums to help.

    1. You have a breadboard. You have jumpers and components attached. The instructables lists the connections for the 555 but we can't see it in the pictures. annotate the pictures with the pin numbers.

    2. Looks like you replaced the 33k resistor with a potentiometer. Yes or no? if yes, then you don't need the "3 100 ohm resistors in parallel". if no, explain the components on your breadboard. again, annotate.

    3. Since you're trying to figure this out, and you have plenty of real estate to play with, spread out your components and use more bridges. It will make it easier for you to test, and easier for the rest of us to see what you're up to.

I think I have the components at home to play with this, and if so, I'll give it a try and post a breadboard sch for you later this week.

Hope this helps, and is not too late on this thread

    What a great first post!

Thaxos has helped IMMENSLY with my problem and actually did it here...http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...ead.php?t=9046

So yeah... a little late, but better late than never!

I actually had to step back from this project because of life things and other builds I had to finish. I will probably resume after october when costume and prop building die down.

Thaxos's pictures are good, but the video is great. Clear and to the point. Glad you got an answer to this. I think I'll still have to put one together. Maybe I'll include it in the christmas sabers I'm doing for my kids.

I wonder if you could somehow incorporate this into a lighted switch?
