just a shot in the dark here, but has anyone tried using coloured cellophane in a clear tube?

Same result here, I may try using a UV LED to see if the Colored Polyp will light up.

How about a smoke blade with a blue LED and 6 feet of cellophane gift wrap?
When I looked at the white LED + trans green or trans safety green plus the diffuser I see an almost core effect - is that what you observed? (referring to 2009 pics made by Rhyen)

At least with the "safety green" blade I had on my Wormwood saber, it was a THICKWALL blade. As such, it very much had a center core.
If you search here for "wormwood", you should find pics and vids that show the safety green blade with a P4 white.
AK-47s and Lightsabers, both so fun to build
Thanks for the info! I checked out your pictures of wormwood (nice job by the way!) and the blades turned on. I know that the camera usually creates the core effect, but I thought it would be cool to get a nice wide core with the colored aura as seen in the movies without the aid of the camera. Is the core close to white in person with the colored poly and P4 white LED, or is the core significantly tinted green? I wonder if the core effect would be present without the diffuser in the colored poly tube + the white P4.
Thanks,
Ris Liam
its hard to tell on camera of course but the "core" was safety-green, not white.
You could see the thick walls but it was pretty much all the same color.

Well, since this thread's been resurrected, there's still no chance of these blades coming back, correct? (specifically the black)
