Thread: New build MHS

  1. #1

    Default New build MHS

Yep, I'm at it again. To quote that Other Sci-Fi Property...

    So here's the currently-named-until-I-change-it-again "Perseverance":

    And the electronics engineer porn:

    Parts list:
Blade Holder 14 (full copper & clearcoat PC)
Choke 2 (full copper & clearcoat PC)
MHS Gear (GER2 sun gold & clearcoat PC)
5" Fluted Double Female Connector (wet black PC in fluting)
MPS Pommel style 3 V2 (no PC)
    MPS Insert style 1
    Brass Covertec button
    Red LED indicator
    Slider switch
    MHS sound/speaker/battery combo
    Luxeon V Cyan
    Quick disconnect
    SPST momentary button, red
    Switch bezel nut
Corbin Battle Blade, 36" thickwalled, quad-wrapped
Screws, resistor, wire, and other boring stuff that's implied

The button will be at the top of the fluted section, and the LED about an eighth of an inch below that. I'm 90% sure I can fit the MHS speaker/battery/US2 combo pack beneath them, with enough room to cram in the wires. The slider switch I'm looking at is here, and I plan to mount it to the back of the activation button, where it'll act as a kill switch for the whole thing. The LED will be wired as a power indicator.

Per guidance I've been given, I've opted for the Luxeon V cyan. I have one from Tim's last batch, so yay for me. I'm also considering getting the fluted section and pommel media blasted as well, but that's not definite by any means.

There is no k2 cyan in starformat, only emitter.

I'd use the V....it's more in line with the voltage you plan to use....the K2 will only about 4 volts, and the Ultrasound will burn off the extra voltage as heat, causing the board to get very warm.

I looked at your diagram, and I think you might want to change the resistor to a 270 ohm, 1/4 watt for the 7.4 volts batteries as well. You should be able to use the compact set-up for the Ultrasound in that 5" section with out much trouble. I also think the switch placement is good for both switches. Looks to be an interesting saber, good luck with it!

Interesting design. I like the combination of the choke with the gear section.

Yep, but not a big deal, honestly. I picked up the emitter and a blank star from Luxeonstars.com. 'Twas easier to get them put together than I anticipated, to be honest. I try and support Tim as much as I can, but some stuff has to be outsourced, you know?

    Noted, noted, and thanks!

Thanks, guys. I loved that choke since I saw the first picture of it, and once I got my brother's saber up and going, and mine as well (or what would have been "up and going" if not for the small issue of the LED pads apparently being bad, though I haven't given up all hope!), I decided to try something a little bit more complex and non-standard. Haven't gotten to the point of shrouds and custom parts, though.

Well, I haven't gotten there yet.

While conversing via email with Tim about the 5" piece, it may be a bit more custom than I thought.

    Mmm. The irony.

Also, I updated the first post a bit. I ended up PowerPoint-shopping in my "best guess" of how the accent LED will look, and updated the schematic.

If your talking about pcing the flutes then that's not possible as tim said before, but you always could get some model paint. The saber design looks cool Kant!

You sure? There are options for it on the store.

But your point about the model paint is well-taken. Thanks!

EDIT: Hmm... If I couldn't get the powder coating done I could also get this stuff... ponder ponder.

I may be mistaken. I'm not 100% sure. Tim may have changed his pcing abilities
