new blade shapes?

I know some of you play the game Jedi Academy...how many of the patches for sabers have you downloaded from varying sites? some of the blades are shaped quite oddly, and some are coming out of the hilts at really cool angles. consequently, I was wondering if anyone has ever tried (or if it's even possible) to make a saber blade that was a different shape, diffuser and all (i.e. a light-battle axe or some such thing).
another thing I was wondering is, how durable and flexible is EL wire when it's not wrapped up in the tube to make a saber blade. I'm sure everyone's seen a sci fi movie or cartoon where they had an "energy whip" type of weapon. would it be possible to string a length of that out of a hilt and light it up to make a semblance of said whips?

Light whips would probably work best with side emitting fiber optic cable than EL. Too much flexion in the EL wire can severe the two little wires inside it and cause it not to function.

As for different shapes of sabers, yeah, they've been out forever. Haven't you seen the myriad of light-up sword toys?

Ultra yes, now that you mention it I've seen different plastic toys (axes, swords, maces) and whatnot. none of them have ever been light up though, save some of the swords. not much gets to my tiny corner of the state lol. I guess I just never made the connection.
