Have these the same ID as the hilt pieces? I.e, would I be able to fit my US/2AA holder combo inside it and have it extend into a 4" ext.?

Gear id is 1.15" diameter.
that would make it tough for one of those US/Batt combo deals in the shop i think.

Yeah but there are other ways to do things like set it up so the gear and pommel screw off as one instead of just he pommel, yeah it takes up some space but you will also get some great resonance.
