Thread: Design a saber station and questions

Default Design a saber station and questions

Hey Tim, have you ever thought about adding an interactive "design a saber" section on your page? Basically this would allow customers to design sabers and construct them on your web page based on the parts you offer so they can see what they are going to look like before they purchase? I personally like this idea so we can see exactly what parts we want and can make visual adjustments as needed.

My next question is this, have you ever though about adding some small grooves on your base MHS hilts or offer it as an option for an additional fee like with your standard endcaps (have several designs available to choose from) and have the groove deep enough for us to add "O" rings if we wanted to? Here is a pic if it helps.

Actually I used to have a hilt designer for sink tube hilts. I will offer this again when I get closer to being done with the MHS. It will be allot harder considering there will be probably 100's of possible combinations.

I have always offered to do custom work on the items I sell. Some I might charge a small fee others I just do for free. All it takes is a email and a sketch WITH dimensions to find out.

The 'design a saber' idea has been talked about before as I recall. The general concensus was that it was going to be very labor intensive to get the images made and coded for the website. Tim said he would rather spend the time with his family. I agree, wouldnt we all want to spend more time with the ones we love.

When all of the parts are ready for the MHS then I am sure someone will take a crack at it.

I think we could wait 'til there are more MHS hilt sections before we do anything...

even if there are hundreds of combinations, all you need is a rendering of each section, not combined. The drawings that Nightwing and meiv4 did for the graphic Tim solicited would be a great place to start. A small dhtml script and a library of those images would be all we need. It is doable and not that hard either.

That's true; it wouldn't be too hard...

I think the best place to start would be with Xwing's CAD drawings, as they'd technically be be more accurate.

mine are just as acurate, well as acurate as i can make them guessing on half the dims [] if i had some more exact dimensions from tim i could make perfect scale replicas, as i use a derivation of CAD. I dont yet know how to make the whole image library selecting of parts code... so if someone who knows the code would care to inform me i could work on it some.
