Thread: Blue LED question

    Default Blue LED question

    G'day

I am currently planning ahead for my 2nd saber. My first was a simple Lux III green TCSS kit but I have been bitten by the bug and want to make some more I am looking at doing an all MHS Obi-Wan saber but was not sure which LED to use. I basically want the brightest blue possible.
I plan on running a US2.1 when the become available with 2x Trustfire 3.7V 14500's. With very limited building expierence and from as much information I have found on these forums 7.2V should power a Lux V right?
Also the resistor chart says the Lux V is only 2 lumens brighter than the K2. Is the difference really worth running a Lux V over a K2?

Yes a US2.1 will be able to handle a Lux5 just fine. As for intensity I have not seen a blue K2 in person but a blue lux5 with a low bin number is probably going to be your best bet if you want a BLUE saber.

The K2 uses less voltage (3.85 v), the extra voltage from the trustfires (7.4 v)would be converted to heat by the ultrasound ( A resistor would do the same)

The Lux V uses (6.84 v) so less over voltage for the board to convert to heat, hence more efficient.

The K2 also needs more current (1500 mA) to run at optimal, which will use up run time, trust fires put out (900 Mah) so you would be looking at a run time of about 40 minutes (give or take)

The Lux V only needs 700 mAh so your run time would be around 1 hr 15 min

I think the Lux V 's power requirement's are a better fit with the trust fire / ultrasound combo based on what Ive seen.

I could be a little off on my estimations, but i think you get the Idea.

    1. P4 Requires LESS VOLTAGE... Meaning more space in your hilt that is normall taken up by batteries...

    2. P4 Overdriven is BRIGHTER than a Lux V blue...

    3. P4 Can be used with MR BOARDS...

    4. P4 blue Is a NICE blue, and you don't have to worry about Bin Codes as much.

I'm sold on P4 blues. Heck...I'm sold on P4s in general.

I'm itching for a P4 green for my personal saber...

oh sweet, so would you drive the p4 blue at 1.5 amp?
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
someone should ask xwing because i think if you run the Blue Luxeon Rebel at 1 amp, it should be brighter than even the p4 blue

and if your sound board can take it then get a double or triple rebel from Xwing... But i think a single rebel should out do the p4 and you dont have to over drive it.
