    Lightbulb "hypothetical question"

OK, if a light saber was made real whether it be plasma or whatever, what would you say it would sell at as in price? like what do you think it could sell for? max and min

probally starting at least at $10,000 and going WAY up.

because that would be THE best weapon ever!

If they were real you would probably need to have a licence to own one. I'd hate to think of idiots running around with real sabers. And, initially, they would probably be restricted to the military.

    Difference? :P

Go to youtube and watch "Three in the Afternoon" and "Six in the Morning". That should give you an idea of what'll happen. :P

At least several million and thats just production costs, I couldnt guess at R&D...if it was a plasma based design it would require very exotic heat management and materials [fullerenes] near the emitter and a quite sophisticated - read absurd tolerances - system of EXTREMELY HIGH SPEED moving magnetic components to create a non-disruptable containment...it is also going to need a nuclear power source...something like a pebble bed reactor with the 'pebbles' scaled wayyyyy down to microencapsulation, to get enough power...and a electrical system small enough to fit yet robust enough to handle ridiculous voltages to initiate the plasma conversion of ordinary air, also a tiny but extremely high efficiency [probably nuclear-electric] jet turbine to push enough VOLUME of air through the plasma jet for saber-FAST cutting...again extreme tolerances...you'd need MIT quality engineering and NASA class fabrication...and the very top levels of both...a plasma saber MIGHT be BARELY within present paradigms...for a price that could outfit a small conventional army.

IF it was a more movie-accurate ANTIPROTON saber then you need ROOM TEMPERATURE SUPERCONDUCTORS which don't exist yet [or if they do are classified] and probably would require NANOASSEMBLERS [which if those exist TPTB will - and perhaps do- actively SUPPRESS for as long as humans remain Earthbound...Human Civilization on Earth cannot survive the existence of nanoassemblers].

RTSC material formed into a torus and stacked for the C-cell sized 'on demand' megawatt power cells, and for the containment field components...and also to build the nanominiaturized cyclotron or coil accelerator for the antiproton generator [which would also probably be actively supressed by TPTB for obvious reasons] which would almost certainly require nanoassemblers to construct and they would also be necessary for constructing the components for beam-shaping and sizing and flow management [the beam would have to be kept microscopically thin to cut while safely limiting gamma radiation emission that results from proton-antiproton annihilation yet be able to increase flow volume instantly on contact with denser materials...nanotech would be absolutely required for the flow gate systems]...we're talking Kurzweil Singularity technology advancement...cost would be entirely meaningless as well as incalculable in present economic paradigm...

Those sabers, like everything else, would actually cost NOTHING to produce post-Singularity...but the R&D cost to get there would be spectacular...and it appears that TPTB are spending just about everything we have to actively suppress any possibility of that ever coming...forget about 'legality' the 'Grinches' in power wont ALLOW Humanity to advance that far technologically AT ALL...EVER.

In the documentary "the Science of star Wars"(was on the history channel), they talked to scientist that work with plasma. They were actually able to create a 3 inch "tube" of plasma in a field. They also estimated for a plasma saber to function like the ones in the movie it would have to heat up to 12 million degrees, which they cannot make anything heat up to temperature in any kind of safe environment. Also, the machine that created the tube was the length and with of a football field and 3 stories high. They did say that one day it will be possible, but definitely not in our lifetimes.

Well heres the thing, I do not think a saber blade would be made of plasma, just think about that for a second...plasma hummmmm
