I third the motion. Tim's holders are perfect. the spacing is so exact I barley need to put a thumbscrew in to hold the blade, but it does not have to be forced in.

    Strydur,
will the LED holder converted for a Star/O fit a LuxIII as well? I am getting both types of LEDs and want to know if I would need both types of LED holders.

hey tim, heres a question, do you think you would be able to do what corbin said he was gonna try, and make a core piece for a graflex, a led 1 inch? i had talked to him and he said he talked to the guy at the graflexshop. the same guy i got a machined aluminum core part that was machined to fit a 3/4 el blade. it has the round countersunk areas for the side recharge pins, and theyre tapped to screw in the pins. it reallly is a sweet piece. but now that im trying this luxeon stuff i would like to have the same part but machined out for a led instead.

any possible plans at tryin to machine one? i was able to get another sound board setup, just like the one i used with the vader/heiland. and was planning on usin it in the graflex. and i sure would like to use a led in it and have it look like its supposed to look, if you know what i mean, tim.

i wish i had a mini lathe, then i could try and machine it out myself to 1 inch and use your type of led heatsink on the bottom end. have you seen what those core parts from him look like? if so, do you think its even possible to machine one like that but in 1 inch for the luxeon leds?

An 1 inch holder would look rather funny on a graflex. I believe that's why Corbin got a 3/4. You'd have to make a larger opening to do a 1 inch blade. If you don't care about accuracy then it's not an issue of course.

I have my own custom EL blade holders coming similar to what the graflexshop sells but designed to hold a mono jack like the rest of my holders and it will be cheaper. There is not enough room in my opinion to do a "proper" holder for a 1" blade inside of a graflex. After machining the inside to 1" you just would not have enough material left over to add the sunken areas with the brass pins etc..and definately not enough room to mount the switch up under the red button like most do unless someone made a custom very small switch for it.

Cyambin, The O stands for Optics. The star o has optics built on already and I believe is rated at 1 watt with a max forward current of 350 mA. The Star III do not have optics installed. It is 3 watts and can handle a forward current of up to 1400 mA. So I guess Star III are brighter.

Here's My Graflex with 1 inch blade and LED holder. Switch is tight under the red button so i put mine on the Clamp mounted switch box. All electrodes are in place. Ipolished that area instead of blacking it out. The opening is just fine although the blade clamp was slightly modded. Well here's the pics

How far is the blade held into your blade/led holders?

    Techniques are many,
    Principles are few.
    Techniques may vary,
    Principles never do.
