    HI~Malaki

    sorry reply late,

Because I am busy to prepare something of the lightsaber tuition in local college.

    XD~

The MCD is not point, the point is quality, angle and uniform

    My RED LED is 12000mcd~
    My Blue LED is 6000mcd~
    My green LED is 12000mcd~

    HI~Novastar

thanks of you like my latching switches, that is why every hilt of mine that use the type of switch.

    hi~LeMoel
    I only have MR saber~XD~~

    --------------------------------------------------------------

Strip LED SABER(MR~hyperdyne~Makoto's) is different type with luxeon lightsaber(LuxV, P4, K2, LuxIII),

so I feel, Strip LED SABER comparison luxeon lightsaber have a litter unfair,

Luxeon lightsaber is very bright in head of blade, but dark in tip of blade

Strip LED SABER have same brightness in all blade.

oh i thought they were 4000 mcd? the ones you gave tim to sell?

the comparison still needs to be done eventually..

who ever bought one of your sabers should do a comparison

    HI LeMoel~
    sorry reply so late,

Because I am finish of the lightsaber tuition in local college and busy for work of Chinese new year.
    (too busy.......)

    4000 mcd???

I just post it on last reply.

    Post again.
    Mcd of Makoto's saber LED

    RED LED is 12000mcd~
    Blue LED is 6000mcd~
    green LED is 12000mcd~

But the MCD is not point in my side, the point is quality, angle and uniform

I have seen the top luxeon sabers in person, and I have tried out Hyperblades in person. If I had to guess where his would rate, I would definitely think Makototsai's sabers are brighter then ANY form of luxeon currently. LED strips have just so much opportunity to be amazingly bright, from what I have seen first hand a luxeon would need to put out like 800+ lumen to be as bright as Hyperblade.

Makototsai's are similar in construction to a Hyperblade with one obvious change. Where Makototsai seems to use LED's that are single unit but multi-color, Hyperblades are built with single color LED's. I would think that an LED built to just do ONE color would do that one color brighter then a 3 color LED.

Beyond that... Makototsai's sabers have a single ladder of LED's, where a Hyperblade is slightly more densely packed. The V2 Hyperblade LED strip has 2 sides and the LED's slightly overlap each other. So essentially, there's more LED's jammed in there then you possibly could do with a single LED ladder.

I know Hyperblades run at max current for those LEDS because I have not only measured them to consume 4 Amps at 11volt (note... that's 44watts...) but I can tell you first hand the blade LITERALLY gets warm after 10 min of full power run. That's what LED's do when you drive them HARD.

So... long story short, I would expect Makototsai sabers to be much brighter then ANY luxeon, but Hyperblades are probably still the brightest.

It was an obvious tradeoff that Makototsai made... he chose a multi-color blade rather then a single color blade. That's the tradeoff... slightly dimmer. But still, VERY bright!!! Personally, I think Makototsai is doing great work and hold his work in high regard.

Kudos to you Makototsai!!! Keep up the good work!

    Hi Eandori,

I know Makototsai uses both the RGB leds (multicolor) and the single color leds. I have one of his single color led strips in blue.

So, maybe his single color led strips would be as bright as a Hyperblade? But then again, there are not as many leds as a Hyper (probably closer to half the number). Don't Hypers have something like 150 leds?

yeah thats what i thought that hyperblades had 2 leds going up in there strip and Makotos only has one?

Yeah, you could do 2 led ladder strips and stagger them. It would be brighter but at what power consumption? You'd need 4000mA of current and a huge battery or something ridiculous like that. Might as well just use a plug-in AC power supply.

Makoto's are looking pretty bright as they are. Compared to my royal blue Luxeon Rebel, I'd say the base of the Rebel blade is brighter but only the first inch or two. The Makoto strip is kinda like the middle section of the Rebel blade but the same brightness from top to bottom. I think it would be brighter if I could drive it properly too. I'm just using an MR board. I'd like to pump 2000mA into it.

so you have tryed the royal blue luxeon rebel very cool, would you say that the royal blue rebel is as bright or bright than the luxeon k royal blue?

i know specs say that the k2 is but i hear that the rebel seems to light the blades better or sumthing..?

I'd say the Rebel is very bright. The royal blue is not as "bright" as the normal blue but is such a nice hue of blue. With Corbin film and gift wrap it is very bright and even. I don't know how it compares with a blue K2 since I've never seen one. But it is a great looking and bright blade/led.

Just like with the in-the-hilt leds, it depends on how you drive the led strip as to how bright it will be. So, comparing a properly driven Rebel with an led strip improperly driven will not be the best comparison.

(points for that, it's very true period– comparing a poorly driven Rebel to a Lux 1 would also have this issue; and please don't take the below as a shot at you, J.Diah, it's an open thing to the thread itself )

I'd say comparing an LED strip to a base LED is an unfair thing to begin with–it's like asking whether an MHS or an ALW hilt will be better–they're so different in what they are and seek to answer that comparison is nearly irrelevant. As long as the blade is quite visible and glows well, I think it satisfies that need. The choice is what effect you're going for. I think this whole thread needs to acknowledge that LED ladders and LED bases are neither better or worse than each other–your application should determine your choice. Heck, I've even seen a lot of *legasp* EL blades that are drool worthy and duelable (though my simple fear of breaking expensive stuff keeps it at moderate contact only).
