Your train is looking good. Hope you have a big trailer to haul it in and a few 'beefy' friends to lift it in. Thats always my problem. I build something heavy and then space out on the transportation.

xwing, I hope to have it done, or something resembling done by Fri. Because I'm going to show it to the rest of the family on Sat.

This is designed to come apart in 3 sections for easier transportation. Tank, Cab, and Chassis.

So far it looks like this thing is going to cost upwards of about $600 to build. A far cry from the $300 I guessed first...[V]

Oh, well. He'll like it. That's all that matters.

Wow Firebird that train is Awesome!!! You could easily rent it out for Birthday parties and special events. $$$$ Lot of money in renting props like that as long as it's movable to the site.

    Firbird,

Just out of curiosity I showed your pictures around my office to see what folks would say. I had the majority of people (without any prompting) ask the same question..."if you are going to rent this out for parties". I'm telling you pal, you've got a money maker with this. Everyone was very impressed!

Make sure to post more pics once it is finished. I assume you're going to paint it up?

    Best of luck!!!

    Funny story...

I went to Home Depot to pick up the paint for this thing…

So I’m standing in line waiting for them to mix the colors I’ve got. Red, Yellow, Blue, Black in exterior paint. So I, making idle chit chat and curing the paint guys curiosety, say,

“This is becoming quite a project! All this for a gift.”

So the paint guy’s like, “What, are you painting someone’s house for them?” (Barf!)

“No, I’m making a train for my nephew.”

No lie… Both the paint guy AND the guy in the line next to me both say,

“Oh! Do you live on Rt.xxx?”

I’m say, “Yeah, that’s the one!”

Now, this Home Depot is 20 miles from my house! And these guys knew about it. Lol

Also, yesterday, while I was working on it, some woman stopped by and asked me if she could pay me to make one for HER son!

It’s too bad I don’t have a garage to work on this stuff in… I could punch one of these things out in a couple of weeks if I had some templates and jigs, and didn’t have to depend on the weather.

How much would you pay for one of these? If you had the extra money that is.

I'd think you could easily do them for $1000 and make a tidy profit.[]
