Jedi-Loreen was interested in some homework I did for the simm I'm in. I posted the whole post and not just the paper because I thought it might make for a more interesting read.
Enjoy ^_^
Miri wandered off to find the library and found it filled with
students. Ever the loner, Miri sighed. She went to the Librarian and
asked for all she had on Anakin Skywalker and Obi-wan Kenobi. The
Librarian had given her a funny look when she asked about Anakin, but
then she realized that Miri was one of Tahl's students. Miri stopped by
her quarters to pick up some Jun'Teh tea and headed off to the flight
deck and her ship. The Starchaser lowered its neck and the main hatch
opened at her approach. She stopped by to speak with the ship's A.I.
and check on her status and found that she was still flight ready. Miri
paused for a moment, then went to her quarters as the hatch closed shut
and the neck raised up again. Miri smiled as she looked around her
quarters. It felt like she had been away for years. Her bunk sat high
up off the deck with drawers down either side and a table with a
folding chair that slid out from between. On the wall across from the
bunk and the door was a comfortable couch with a reading lamp above it.
In the corner next to the door was a computer sitting on a shelf. Going
around the room was a soft blue light. The walls were paneled with the
same wood as her home on A'renia. It felt very cozy to her and she
considered it off limits to everyone else. She would allow people on
her ship, but never anyone in her quarters. Leading off from her room
was the main lounge. Along the port bulkhead was a couch that curved
with the bulkhead. Bunks were stowed in compartments above for guests.
The deck itself was carpeted in a rich cream color with a royal blue
border going around the outside. There was an antique bookshelf against
the bulkhead opposite the couch and next to Miri's quarters. Hidden in
the decking below was an entire arsenal of weaponry, ranging from
knives to an anti- walker blaster cannon. She knew that once her
training was complete, she wouldn't need even half of the weapons
stowed in the hidden compartment. She was sure that would cut down on
the fuel consumption by quite a bit too. A beautiful wooden railing
bordered some stairs which lead to what used to be the cargohold, but
was now used to house the surveillance equipment, Orbital HALO launch
hatch and her salvaged Imperial speeder bike. She smiled fondly,
thinking about the bike.
She had found it in a salvage yard 5 years ago. While the frame and the
forward stabilizer fins were twisted beyond repair, the power system
and controls were still good. She had spent months working on the
rebuild but had only ridden it once. That in itself had been a heck of
a ride that had almost cost her her life. She had taken it to a test
track to get the feel of it before taking it up to full power.
Evidently it was not a standard Imperial speeder bike, but a heavily
modified one. It throttled up past what she thought was full power and
so fast that it was all she could do to hold on to the handle bars.
Luckily the power unit overloaded and the bike dropped to the ground
like a stone, flinging Miri across the track into a crash net. She
crawled away with a dislocated shoulder, fractured both arms and
twisted her left ankle. She still kept the bike and replaced the power
supply, but she had always stopped short of hopping back on it. She had
once vowed to master it, as if it were some wild animal she wanted to
tame. Even to this day, she treated it with the same respect she would
any wild creature, but feared its wrath. Satisfied that the ship was in
ready status, Miri returned to her quarters, picked up the terminal and
sat down on the couch with the data padd and began to read.
As she read, she typed in notes and observations, The bodyguard and
investigator in her rising to meet the challenge. The easy part was
done. She had a wealth of information on the two Jedi. The hard part
was to read between the lines, connect the dots and psycho-analyze. She
might not be tasked with moving objects with the force this time or
deflecting blaster bolts. As fun as that could be, Miri found it more
fulfilling to get back to basics. After spending hours reading, typing,
pacing the room, making trips to the Starchaser's galley, perhaps the last
bastion of junk on the ship, for snacks, raiding a forgotten case of
Kor'va slurm soda and bouncing a ball around the lounge, Miri had come
to a definite conclusion. She read through what she had written. She
could spend much more time going through the data , but she was merely
tasked with researching a Jedi Master. She wondered if perhaps Master
Tahl was trying to guide her into looking at a role model. Miri smiled
at that idea. She was never one to follow in another's footsteps.
looking back she had somehow blazed her own trail through life. And
perhaps that was why she seemed never to fit in, she realized.
Anakin Skywalker was a spirited young boy who's ability with the Force
was unparalleled. When Master Qui-gon Jinn discovered the child on
Tatooine, it was thought that he would fulfil a prophesy and would
bring balance to the Force. But history shows that what we expect and
what we get can be wildly different. Later on in life, Anakin was
seduced by the dark side of the Force. Jedi training helps us to be
mindful of the Force, both light and dark and how to avoid taking the
dark path. Master Obi-wan was a Jedi who still to this day, inspires
future Jedi. A student of Master Qui-gon, Obi-wan seemed to have
learned some of his master's defiant ways, as noted by Master Yoda .
Together these two seemed to be made for one another. So what went so
wrong between them?
I believe it all started with Master Qui-gon. He was the one who found
Anakin and insisted he be trained, even though there were rules that
were in place for a reason. Perhaps out of respect for him, the council
granted Qui-gon's dying wish and so, Obi-wan was given a Padowan,
perhaps a bit too soon. As a result, I think that Obi-wan felt like the
older brother of two orphans. It caused him to have to grow wiser much
faster than if he wasn't training a Padowan. However, Anakin's
rebellious nature seemed to put much tension on Obi-wan. and it seemed
that Obi-wan began taking a step back from a sibling-like relationship
to a more school-teacher role.
Where Obi-wan was critical, Anakin found praise and encouragement from
Palpatine. I believe that Palpatine filled the role of the father for
Anakin, given that he chose to save Palpatine over Master Windu.
I also believe that Anakin may have feared the discovery of his wedding to
Padme Amidala and that would have never have been too far from his mind.
As a result of these fears, possibly amplified by the force through his
dreams and the influence of Palpatine, training that should have worked
to keep him from straying, failed practically overnight.
Miri took a moment to reflect on her own words. She put her padd down
and sat down with a heavy heart. She too had a defiant streak, much
like Anakin. She realized that the Dark path was but a step away for
anyone, but it was perhaps easier to take that path as a Bendu than she
had even suspected. It was easy to get caught up in the magic of making
things levitate with the Force. And that was perhaps one of the keys
to a Jedi/ Apprentice relationship. A diligent student has to be aware
of the consequences of one's actions, but the Jedi should also be there
to remind the student that a Jedi uses the force for the good of
others, not for the gain or entertainment of oneself. Obi-wan tried to
do that, but he also knew of his student's potential, but so did Anakin
and Palpatine.
Miri sighed. There was so much to be learned from these two and she
had barely scratched the surface. However she had suddenly realized she
was more interested in Obi-wan Kenobi than Anakin. While there were many
other Jedi who, at the time, were more accomplished, If it had not been
for Obi-wan, then Luke Skywalker and his sister Leia would not have been born.
His duel with his student more than likely haunted him is whole life, But the relationship
with Luke was most definately more like his relationship with Qui-Gon Jinn.
Smiling, she realized that Master Tahl may have given her a role model after all.
Miri had an even deeper respect for her Teacher. By giving her a vague clue,
Miri had walked herself to the kind of Jedi she too could someday be. She giggled
slightly as she took her padd to confer with Tahl. She hoped that one day, when
the time came to take on an Apprentice, she would do a better job than Obi-wan Kenobi.
