Thread: Glowing switches?

  1. #1

    Question Glowing switches?

I am looking for glowing switches that can be used for lightsabers. Like on this "vindico" saber, http://forums.thecustomsabershop.com...3&postcount=15. I really like that glowing ring. Since that saber was made by JQ Lightsabers, I figured I'd check out their site. I found some pics on this page, http://www.jqlightsabers.co.uk/specials.php.

    I've found stuff here.

What do you guys think? Anyone know where to find better or cheaper switches?
Mainly looking for pushbuttons, I have seen a lot of glowing rocker switches.

Those are commnly refered to as "anti-vandal" switches. They're all metal, very sturdy, but notoriously difficult/frustrating to work with because they're so darn big.

Notice how Vindico and Halcyon have them mounted on sparate platforms or "control boxes"... they need big holes...

JQ is making me a collar/switchplate with 2 of those for my next project...Do you know if the lights on the switches can be wired into the CF to pick up all the effects?....

Cool, thanks for the info Eastern. I've just now finally found another thread talking about these very switches now. If I had found it before, I wouldn't have made a new thread.

While searching for anti vandal switches, I found a few more places that have 'em.

    http://www.lambind.com/switches/anti...es/index.shtml I like the PV4
http://www.sunshinele.com/htm/pushbutton_switch.html I lovin' that they I'm finding some gold/brass ones too

So the main issue as mentioned before is the size of the switch and the pricing.

A possibly cheaper alternative, you could use an illuminated switch similar to this one and use paint to get the glowing ring effect yourself. You could even go further and put a glowing initial in Aurabesh or a symbol.

I have an illuminated vandal switch on my saber
I went with the white-spot led instead of the ringed led type.
As said before the switch is a large unit and using a switch plate would be the way to go.
Jq Lightsabers sorted me out with one of their custom plates and it really does look the part as well as being functional

I did think about linking the white-spot to the Corbins board so it shimmered along with the blade.
But ended up having the Fx board power the led in the switch.

The switch on mine does have to be pressed in properly to activate etc.
But this means there's no chance of unintentional powering it down as the switch locks well clear of the rim. G.
