WD40 and Powder Coating

My pommel and v-grooved extension threaded most of the way together then locked up. I'm sure it was because I didn't check for grit in the threads before I test fitted the pieces. I want to squirt a little a WD40 in threads to see if that will loosen them up enough to get them apart, but both pieces are powdercoated. Will WD40 damage the finish? Is there another lubricant that would work better and/or be less damaging?

That should be fine. Powder coating is solvent resistant..you might try just soaking the whole thing in a glass of cooking oil though as it would be easy to wash off with hot water.

my trick is to stick the part with the male end into icewater, it will shrink but the part with the female will shrink less due to not being in direct contact with the ice, that has helped me with several stuck threads before.

WD40 worked a treat. There was some grease and a couple of big pieces of grit on the female threads. Once I cleaned that up no problems at all.
