Thread: Question about EL Wire

  1. #1

    Default Question about EL Wire

This may be a dumb question, but the wiring diagram have lead me to wonder. Do you have to close the loop to get the wire to work? (i.e. strip and solder both ends of the wire)

nope, just make sure you do a good connection on the one end of the wire that you are connecting to the plug and you are good to go.

Yeah, you can solder individual strands, but the more strands soldered that way the more connections you have to worry about breaking.[B)]

I wonder if closing the loop would go bum-bum?!? Hmmm....

Your top diagram with one end connected is the proper way to hook it up.

At least it's color coded! And I can easily see what you're getting at.

I was wondering that myself. I read in another thread that the second way will fry something, but I don't see how the first one will work...

I have no experience with EL at all, so I don't know how it works, specifically.

Do you connect the wires at the open end? Or do they stay separate?

The wires remain seperate on the open end of the el wire.
