    Question Led Wire Help

Hello I have an ultrasaber vagabond lightsaber that i have customized and i was wondering if i could wire another small led light inside the saber... if so size is not a problem i just need to know how to wire the led into the electronics inside the saber already... From the big red led inside my hilt connecting to the battery pack is 1 red cord and 1 black cord... The small 12 volt red led i have has 2 cords 1 red and 1 black also...

    Question

Ok it is a small red led that can take up to 12 volts and a resistor is included... there is a red and black cord coming from the small led... and pictures below stating the ones in my hilt , so do i just cut the wires, strip it a little, put my new led's wires on the the same colored wires (red on red) (black on black) and just solder all the wires coming from the battery pack and both led's wires together? here is a pic of my electronics exactly...the second picture is what i think it should be correct if i'm wrong plz...http://s222.photobucket.com/albums/d...ent=newled.png...

Assuming that your main Led is set up correctly, that should do it.

But the small Led will stay on all the time. If you don’t want this, you need to wire it up after the switch on the negative side.

what exactly is the negative side? and will butt connectors work instead of sodering the wires?

What I’m referring to as the negative side would be the ground side…..the dark wire where your switch is connected into.

You would connect your small LED with one lead going to the positive side (red wire in your picture) and the other after the switch on the negative side (black wire in your picture) if you want the led to go off when you turn your saber off. Leaving it the way you have in the picture (wired before the switch), the LED will stay on all the time.

As far as connecting the wires, anything will work as long as they are securely fastened and insulated. Soldering is just the most efficient and professional way to go.

ok i did all the right stuff its just my led was way too **** weak... it was basically a waste of wiring... maybe i did it wrong but i followed the diagrams... i see a tiny red glow on the bottom of my hilt from it wired in there, but i can't tell if it's really weak or its just the reflection from my main led...any suggestions on how to tell which led is gonna actually "glow" in the stores besides making a little tiny light like if you had 10 seconds of battery power left on a small laser? or if it sounds like i did it wrong help plz

It’s gotta be your LED. You said it could take 12 volts and the resistor that is built into it is probably set-up that way….for a 12 system.

My guess is you’re using a 6 volt power supply in your saber and while I don’t know exactly what you’re looking for out of this LED, I’m going to guess you just want a red led that lights up for aesthetic purposes.

If you have a Radio Shack near you grab one of these:

You’ll also need a resistor (180 ohms-1/8 watt), if they don’t have the exact one, get as close as you can….(150 ohm-220 ohm) or you can mix and match by running them in series…(100 ohm + 80 ohm = 180 ohms)…..or you can run (2) 360 ohm resistors in parallel to get your 180 ohms. It might sound complicated, but just tell the sales guy what you need and he’ll set you up.

You might also want to pick up an LED holder, it’ll make it easier to install in your saber. Everything I talked about so far costs about a buck or two for each item.

Once you get all the parts, you’ll notice that the led does not have black and red wires. You will also notice it has 2 leads with one being longer then the other. The longer one will be the positive side and needs to be attached to the positive (red) side of your battery. The short lead will be the ground (black). The resistor will need to be attached between the long lead on the led and the positive side (your red wire) of the battery.
