I can vouch that a P4 white with a nice yellow Lee filter (something like 85% transference) is almost indistinguishable in terms of brightness vs. any "mainstream" colored LED of similar volts and amps and so forth with a similar diffusion style, blade length, optics, etc.
We didn't try any other filters at the time, so... I really don't know what would happen if you tried something as deep as purple or blues. Those tend to cut the transference by a landslide and so... it's pretty harsh on the brightness!!
But yeah... as a white, the thing is pretty great.

I posted these pictures somewhere else recently, but I'll put them here too for you.
White Seoul P4 running at 1A. For comparison purposes, the camera settings are the same in all the pictures. I adjusted the camera to show the most realistic pictures of how the blades looked.
The yellow filter I use is cut from a pair of ski goggles, but if you got the Lee filter swatch book, you could probably match it.
Go to this site: http://www.leefilters.com/
Find the "contact us" page, and ask them to send you a swatch book. They'll send it for free. It's got every color under the sun.
sweet thanx, i do have the swatchbook from lee fliters.

i wonder what time it is on Coruscant
Thanks from me too!
I read people talking about Lee filters, but I didn't know what they were specifically referring to. I just ordered a swatch book myself.
Yes, I spell it sabre. I just like it that way.

Remember kids, using Darth or Master in your user name won't make you cool.
The neat thing is that the filters are paper thin. (Maybe even thinner.) You can put them on the inside of the blade holder, between the lens and the ring it sits against. That way, you won't lose your filter when you take the blade out.
