Default Star wars 1-6, ep1-ep6, TPM - ROTJ ect ect ect to be converted to 3D!

""Lucas produced the animated "Star Wars: Clone Wars," hitting theaters Aug. 15. It will be followed in the fall with the launch of an animated TV series by the same name, airing on the Cartoon Network and TNT. Lucas plans a live-action "Star Wars" TV series as well, and he's also looking into re-releasing the six "Star Wars" films using new 3-D technology.

"We're trying to do that," Lucas said. "We worked on some, with a company that was developing the technology a few years ago to convert films into 3-D, we worked with them. But the system works great. It's just not very practical. So what we've been working on since then is to develop a sort of practical way to do it. And we will get there. It's just a technological challenge."

Definitely would be nice for the movies, but isn't this another way for Lucas to just keep making more money. I mean I would more than likely go see them again in the theater, but another $100 to sit and watch them again, well, I would have to think about that.

um... one word, Ewoks... lucas sold out circa 1983... everything that's come out since has been primarily about making more money...

How can you be sure about that? is there a documented video of him saying I want more money?

And how can you base him selling out in 83 by the ewoks? you do know that it wasent the 501st that fought on endor, they were run of the mill draftees and have no way of fighting agenst the ewoks.

Yeah I do think it was a bit silly with the ewoks and all but come on there was still alot of rebel troopers around and we all know that han is the greatest and could take down half the fleet by himself.

first off, he has a lot of money, the mass merchandising is making him a TON of money, forgive me for being cynical but if this wasn't about money the Star Wars transformers would not be a reality. Its not just lucas it's a lot of people looking to make a buck any way they can by attaching the "Star Wars" label to sundry crap, the thing that pisses me off is Lucas actively encourages it.

Secondly the fact that the ewoks were featured is why I call sellout, I don't care if they were green recruits, or the 501st, the ewoks themselves were the first sign of the pandering that gave us Jar Jar Binks, at that point he could have done wookies as the primitive allies, and it would have made far more sense, the only reason it was ewoks is that lucas knew damn well that children would relate to them more and that therefore they would make a better merchandising tool. As evidenced by the abominable children's cartoons he made featuring the Ewoks right afterward.

I like Star Wars, I REALLY like Star Wars, I picked up a hobby wherein I spend hundreds of dollars and hours of my time building prop light sabers for god's sake. I just wish the guy with creative control of the franchise would stop letting everyone milk this cash cow, because every stupid idea that gets associated with Star Wars dilutes it just a little bit, dumbs it down just that much more, I pray they'll stop before nothing of value is left.

Sek makes a good point. I don't think sell out is the right term. The man created one of if not the most recognizable and celebrated films of all time...he's gonna make money whether he tries to or not! You can't honestly believe that all of the marketing schemes and stupid commercialism involved with star wars stems straight from Lucas himself. Granted he may give the nod of approval, but come on!

Who of you are so righteous that you would say No if someone came up to you with an idea to take one of your ideas, market the crap out of it thus giving you a unending source of funds for you, your children, their children, on and on into eternity????

    Show of hands......what?....no one....thats what I thought.

read what I said, I didn't say he was coming up with all the stupid comercialism, I said he was letting it happen.

Honestly when you look at ANH and ESB you can see a real difference from RotJ and everything that came after.

In the first two movies, there wasn't any real pandering, they still apealed to kids because they were understandable and accessable, and the merchandise from the early years reflects this, it's mostly action figures and toy lightsabers and blasters, but nothing really silly.

Then after RotJ you see tons of stuff, nothing completely out there, but still theres a profusion of things that were done just because they could make a buck.

When the prequel trilogy came out it was a mixed blessing, it brought back alot of the stuff we got more movies, and a new generation got to see star wars on the big screen.

We also got a much more rubust merchandising package, with things like the afforementioned transformers. I'm not against the people that made the movies and Lucas himself who created the whole concept making a fair profit off of all that hard work, but when I see things that violate the spirit of that work, that are obviously done solely for profit without any thought of what it means for the star wars franchise itself, it makes me cringe a little.

Call me old fashioned, but when you create something loved and enjoyed and even reveared by so many people all over the world, you have as much of a responsibility to it and them as you do control over it.

I always found the Ewoks to be a very powerful metaphor.
Small, "insignificant", weaker beings, banding together to retake their home, utilizing tactics and weapons that their opponents underestimated.

Sounds quite a bit like many factual historical battles to me.

Beyond that, can we accuse him of selling out when the whole point of any film, book, toy, is to make money? Star Wars is this man's occupation. His job requires him to continue to put out a product that there is demand for. We as fans continue to demand that product. I've said it myself. He will continue to put out Star Wars until we stop paying for it.

So bring on the lightsaber wielding ewok transformer.

Obviously there is no right or wrong answer out there it's all just peoples opinions...

Personally IMO I would like Lucas to stop wasting energy on the ridiculous merchandising and put more attention into giving the fans of his work more quality stuff. Like maybe a movie that has NOTHING to do with Star Wars or Indy! I know it's a stretch, but hey one can dream.

With that said, I cannot blame the man for making his money. I can be jealous though!

BTW I lost it the first time I saw Star wars transformers! Come one 2 of the best things from my childhood smooshed into one package! For shear novelty sake, they are cool, and I doubt the children they were intended for really care about how much money Lucas is making.
