Default Has anyone used this tube from Online Metals?

    http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant...=71&top_cat=60

I was thinking of using this stuff for the overlay on the top saber in the picture below. The inner pipe is 1.25" aluminum tubing that I have on hand. I used it as the chassis in my Enigma saber, and I know that with a little sanding, it will fit into a sink tube adapter.

The stuff I linked to above has an ID of 1.43". If I had Tim knock off .020" from the OD of the sink tube adapter, it should all go together. I just need to find some thin PVC or something to do the black grip parts.

I would use this tubing for the blade holder overlay too.

    Has anyone used this stuff?

Yes I have. I actually used it for an overlay on a regular MHS saber. But (and that's a mighty big but) I had to bore it out a little bit to get it to fit over the 1.45" diameter MHS parts. I essentially made it a .023" wall tubing.

It's probably easier for me to get Tim to shave down the adapters than for me to hone the stuff out.

For the price of it, I'll order a couple of feet and give it a try.

    Thanks!

I have not used that perticular tube but I have machined aluminum tubes before. it is a lot easier to turn the outside of a tube to reduce the diameter than it is to bore out the inside of a tube to increase the ID.

That's what I figured. I placed an order for 2' of it. Monday is a holiday here, so I probably won't see it until at least Tuesday or Wednesday.

Ordering raw metal and expecting it to fit together without any maching is always hit and miss.I consider myself lucky when i dont have to bore just a little bit out or sand down the O.D just to get 2 peices to fit together. And by the way try speedymetals.com you can order by the inch and the prices on tube is much cheaper.

Yes, it is a pain in the butt to bore out a tube 10" deep (5" then flip). Having Tim reduce the OD is probably the best way to go for this.

I second speedymetals.com. Much better prices than onlinemetals.com on most items. Plus, I have had three shipments from OM go crazy lately. One traveled over 3000 miles (and tool nearly three weeks) to make the 500 mile trip to my house.
