I still need to make the mag cylinders/wires, but this is a resin kit made to look like a relic sterling...the rust is real, from a kit made by triangle crafts. I primed it in red, painted with a flat black and used a rough sponge to rub the worn metal edges on. after that I hit it with a coat of transparent/ brown tinted poly to give it the old oiled up WWII look.

the scope was painted in copper first, then I used the mustard method to create paint chips, then the ripped sponge to make scratches/wear....the front lens is from a cheap disposable camera (you can see it in the above pics)

edit; I put this here since this is a costume piece, I don't want to step on anyone's fingers here but it seemed the best place to post this...

    AMAZING!.. no joke...

the paint job really pulls the WHOLE thing together.. the oiled/brown tineted poly did your project justice no doubt.

the 'chippin effect' is top notch IMHO as well...

    how much was the kit?

damn that is SWEET.... again great job.. be proud.

^^Thanks! overall cost was about $120, the resin kit was 85 after delivery and the rest was paint, I want to get another kit to make a clean one too, for the wall. next time I want to bondo all of the seams and get it perfect too, but I got impatient on this one. It was great to have this to work on while waiting for my armor which should be here next week...
on a side note, I said in an earlier thread I was working on an all metal model, well, it got to be too much to handle, so the resin kit won out in the end.......I know...bring on the insults at will, I deserve it....

Man I wish I had that kind of skill.
I have two Airsoft mauser reps I plan to convert to blasters (I have the resin parts for both versions of Han's gun (Ep IV & V). I'll never get close to that detail though. Great job!

Looks great! You've done a really nice job on it.

Can you describe the "mustard method"? I've never heard of it.

The mustard method is a great way to create paint chips, 1st you paint the base coat (in this case copper) then paint on globs of mustard where you want a chip... then while the mustard is wet spray on the top coat. the mustard will get sealed in and stay wet, but the top coat will cure without any problems. after its all dry lightly wash the mustard bumps off and it will leave a chip with a slightly raised edge on the top coat.
