    Lightbulb New Soundboard... Saber-Tech Sound-Wave

Hey guys, yes I'm back with another idea for a new sound board, but I bought company this time lol, me and Tom (Starkiller) have been passing ideas on a cheap yet high quality soundboard, we have nothing solid yet as this is a W.I.P. However, their is a slight snag in finding a builder, anyone got any sites that build this kinda stuff?

Their is a long list of ideas and features, heres an example:

    Vocal Menu
    Ramp On/Off
    Optional Instant On/Off

    3 Flicker modes:
    Light Flicker
    Medium Flicker
    Heavy Flicker (Pulse Mode)

    Shimmer On Clash
Power Off Protection, Hold Button for 2 seconds (Optional)
    RGB Mode

All ideas are welcome! So, what do ya think?

It should be when we start to get proto-types

Before I forget, heres what we look to support and the output of the modes:

Luxeon III (Green, Blue, Royal Blue, Cyan, White) 1A Output
Luxeon III (Red, Red-Orange, Amber) 1.4A Output
Luxeon K2 (Green, Blue, White, Royal Blue, Cyan) 1.5A Output
Luxeon V (Green, Blue, White, Royal Blue, Cyan) 1A Output
Luxeon REBEL (Green, Blue, Royal Blue, White, Cyan) 700mA Output
    Luxeon RGB 1.4A Total Output
Seoul P4 (White, Blue, Royal Blue) 1.2A Output

If I were you, I would AVOID this "digital" method of selecting current, and look for some type of solution where the current could be programmed as a range from (let's say) 500ma to 2500ma... if possible. In general, if you try to support every TYPE of LED... you're going to make yourself one confusing product. If you simply support what it's TRULY about (voltage and current)... then you have unlimited LED support... up to the maximum current your board can handle/allow. Heat becomes the issue with current. Which is why CF doesn't do more than 1500ma at present. Might be able to do 1700ma... but not SAFELY. At present.

Also, A Luxeon III Red/Red-O/Amber is technically looking for 1540mA, so 1500ma is just dandy.

Some option to select the voltage might be ideal as well. Depends. That can get tricky if you're looking to do any PWM driving.

Finally... I've looked into building a board before: a few years ago, JUST before I was meeting Erv / learning about him / his stuff... I was researching to do a project I called "Ns5". Anyhow:

    ...without heavy electronics experience...
...without DSP / sound / programming experience...
...without the ability to properly pre-design your circuit
...without access to a "friend" with access to a PCB-making machine/shop/whatever...

...it costs quite a fortune. You could easily be looking at anywhere from $6000 to $10000 just to get from design through R&D to manufacturing of (say) 100 to 500 boards. This depends on a myriad of things, including whether or not you will be handing a pre-planned design setup to your manufacturer... going to china with stuff (big can of worms opens up there in some bad ways for protecting your work)... or adding part X or part Y.

That being said... if you're serious and you have the uber $$mooooolahhh$$ to burn all at once (and you feel you can unload those to turn the profit/break even quickly)... I say it's a good project idea!!!

i SAy you vary it up in the sense make several board options. Lets say built it to a specification or program it for thaT. Idk just a thought I'd like to see it fairly cheap but reasonable.

I corrected those above... I put in the spec'ed values. Whether it's safe to go higher or not... like a Seoul P4 can do 1.2A like you put but it's not rated for that. Same with the V... it can do 1A but that's out of the specs.

    So in reality you'd need 700mA, 1A, and 1.5A.

Now the Rebel (endor) in RGB would be 1A per channel ideally. So your board max would need to be 3A.

My opinion is that if having it cheap and feature rich is trite... if it were so easy we'd have had it by now.

I see what you guys mean, obviously there are a few things needs to be changed AND how much is going to come out of my pocket, but ATM its just passing ideas around. Money wise, we would be looking around $80 maybe $90, so its not OTT. Their is one thing for sure, this is going to be a long project

So, I'll do some more changing here and there and what we are really looking for is what you guys would want on the board, as far as all the tech and design, thats what I would look into a company for.

So heres what we should be looking at:

Lux Core can support many Luxeon LED types:
Luxeon III (Green, Blue, Royal Blue, Cyan, White, Seoul P4) 1A Output
Luxeon III (Red, Red-Orange, Amber) 1.5A Output
Luxeon K2 (Green, Blue, White, Royal Blue, Cyan) 1.5A Output
Luxeon V (Green, Blue, White, Royal Blue, Cyan) 700mA Output
Luxeon REBEL (Green, Blue, Royal Blue, White, Cyan) 1A Output

Oh and I forgot to mention, I'm trying to design 2 variations of the board, Darkside and Lightside

    Enjoy!

A suggestion I would have is that you get sounds mixed really well for your product. I would not mind a hasbro sound board if it weren't for the fact that the hum stops when it swings or clashes. That is really bothersome. Also the more of each different type of sound you can put in, the better. Such as Erv's 8 swing and 8 clash. Bit for a cheaper product a 4 and 4 with really good quality sounds would be lovely. Just make sure you dont use the snare-drum-from-hell MR Sith sound for the clash. I think we are all tired of that one.
