Thread: Wiring an accent LED

  1. #1

    Question Wiring an accent LED

OK, I think I have my first saber almost fully figured out.

Where do I wire the LED? After the switch but before the buckpuck???

Or would i just splice the positive lead on one part of the LED and run a connection to the negative lead of the battery pack?

And if that is the case, would it be before the buckpuck?

Basically would it look like the picture below?

Okies that diagram is off... it's meant for the resistor so no suprise.

On a buckpuck you'd have four wires:
    1)Pos Battery
    2)Neg Battery
    3)Pos LED
    4)Neg LED

What I would do is keep the positive the plain one. It will go to the switch then branch twice after it... that would be one for your accent LED and one to the buckpuck. Then there would be two Negative wires from the battery: 1) to the the accent LED (resistored) and 2) to the buckpuck.

That would cover it, I believe.

    Lightbulb Wiring?

Ok, I think I got it.

Basically the diagram, but it is hard to see on it. I positive lead from the switch would have two wires coming out of it. One to the positive battery (#1) and one to the LED (through a resistor). Then a wire from the LED to the negative battery post.

Then a wire from the negative post of the buckpuck (#2) to the battery.

Then a wire from the positive LED post of the buckpuck (#3) to the positive post of the LUX III.

Then a wire for the negative LED post of the buckpuck (#4) to the negative post of the LUX III.

    Is that right?

And if I understand correctly, one the LUX III, I only need to wire to one positive and one negative post of the star shape LUX III thingy.

    Right?

Close... The switch will have three. One in from the batteries and two out (one to accent LED and the other to the buckpuck).

Also you didn't mention the Accent LED needs the other leg to go to the battery.

    Default OK

Yeah I forgot to mention the LED negative to the battery negative.

I will be using this switch:

And it doesn't look like it has an extra out.....

Doesn't need one... just solder another one on to make it a "Y".

    Default So

Basically twist two wires together and solder them on to the switch. One wire to the buckpuck, one wire to the accent LED.

Thanks! Can't wait 'til it gets here! WOOOT!!!
