    Default Ok, final thoughts

I have all my pieces that I want to order, the hilt, emiter, pommel etc. I want to get a blue K2 Luxeon, however I just need questions regarding the eletronics/sounds. Where does the sound come from? and do I need sensors to make the sounds when I move the saber? Also I'm clueless as to what boards/buckpucks/battery setup etc. I need and if anyone would mind hooking up the electronics for me if I send them to you please let me know.

Well you're going to need a soundcard from either Erv (join the queue though), a sacrificed Hasbro saber, or one of the Joe Jedi construction kits. I don't know a great deal about all this myself, my first MHS saber will be arriving this week pre-built I'm ashamed to say .

It would probably be for the best if you read through each section of the forum regarding building a saber. Most of them have stickies at the top which contain the basics.

    Gunk,

To be more precise. The sound will come from a sound module and a speaker installed within the hilt. For DIY saber builders there are a few option for sound. They will govern some of the decisions you make while building your saber. These are some of the options.

1.) NO sound. Some people opt to go this route, as a saber without sound is cheaper and there are less points of failure.

2.) Hasbro. A walmart/target toy electronic lightsaber such as the spring-loaded "Force Action" lightsabers, have a fairly decent lighting effect and the sound is not horrible (depending on the model you get/have) If you use a Hasbro module you will need to use a momentary contact switch. These go for about 20 - 30 dollars.

3.) Force FX (Not the Joe-Jedi). FOrce FX Lightsabers from MAster Replicas are a great source for soundboards. You can seek them out on Ebay, or perhaps another source. These boards are capable of driving the LED just like the Hasbro Boards. But the sound is a lot better. Also if you use any type of Master Replicas board you will need to use a latching switch. These can be gotten for about 50-100 bucks.

4.) Forcxe FX (Joe Jedi). The Force FX Construction Kit called the "Joe Jedi" by some, is available for a fairly low price from RadioShack for about 50.00. These boards are not capable of driving a Luxeon LED (unless you like dim), so you will need an additional driver, such as corbin's driver (currentl out of production) or a buckpuck. Since this board requires you to run two circuites, it can drive most any LED, provided you dont overpower the board. These can be gotten for about 50.00.

5.) After market Lightsaber Sound Modue from a specialist. These include Hyperdyne's sound module (although I have neve seen one in stock on his site), the UltraSaber's UltraSound Module. And Erv's Sound/Led Driver the Crystal Focus. Cards in this category are hard to find and cost a bunch...
Minimum is 80. If you got the capital and are patient and are quick when you need to be.... you can probably get a Crystal Focus for the next run at the end of May. They're going for a pretty penny though.

I have a MR Anakin ROTS saber, can I use the soundboard with this switch?

Also, will the light effects and sound be automatic?

You can most certainly use that switch with your anakin sound card. Am I correct in assuming that you're going to pull the sound card out of that saber? If so, there's a handy tutorial section that you'll want to refer back to. The beauty of this hobby is learning - and then building on that learning... which grows into bigger and better sabers (cash dependent, of course).

Two things to add to Darth Fender's block: if you're new, you might want to start small, like no sound - just to build a skill set. And, second, take the time to learn a little about each sound module before you start soldering - it is possible to mess one up during installation, and it happens more than we all like to admit

    Good luck!

edit: oh and the light and sound question. If you use that board and follow the tutorials correctly, Yes, both light and sound will be activated by the switch. Now go on, git to the readin'
