Thread: GeluKhanGharr's clear blade film

    Default GeluKhanGharr's clear blade film

I believe I have the info on the world market blade film that GeluKhanGharr referenced in this thread:
    http://www.thecustomsabershop.com/sa...p?TOPIC_ID=205
I dropped by our local world market last night and they had a ton of it (at least I think it is the right stuff). Don't want to step on his toes though.. so if he gives the OK I'll post pictures of it, the maker, etc..
I've looked at the manufacturer's website and although only available in 30" x 20' rolls at the world market, they sell it in much larger rolls, at widths up to 40". It is clear and listed as 1 mil.. my micrometer last night measured 0.0010".

    thanks

I also was inspired by Gelus' idea. I went to Michaels craft store and bout a roll of the clear shrink wrap for decorative baskets. So far my experiments are going well. I have uses steel wool to "texture" the part of the film that will be at the blade's dimmest part. this has allowed me to control where the film diffuses light the most. the result is a remarkably even LED blade!

I'll share pics when I can get them.

How in the World (Market) did you find the manufacturer/supplier for this store? My labels only say "World Market gift wrap clear 30" X 20' Continuous roll" Nothing about who makes it. Anyway, I found the magic word! Boys and girls, look for clear POLYPROPYLENE. That's what I used. Is that what you found cjarmst?

I was lucky enough to find both label types (yes there are 2, apparently both from the same manufacturer). Here are some pics.

They both have the same bar code.
    bar code: 2025 1178
    sku: 25117
The tan label actually gives the manufacturer. It is:

    Temkin Intl, Inc.
    302 West 900 North
    Springville, UT 84663

    Their website is: http://www.temkininternational.com/index.html

If you go under Products->Rolls->Consumer Rolls, you will see
your film there in all manner of widths and lengths.
Hope that helps some folks out!

Holy smokes I looked POLYPROPYLENE up on McMasters (Part 1451T61)... $217.78 for a 100 foot roll.

I did mention being fire retardant so maybe that's it.

EDIT: Yup, found it much cheaper here. 3500' for under $100.[8D]

I just went and bought some of this. Do I need to wrap it in layers and put it around the MR diffuser?

That's not what Gelu does but you might as well try it and take pics. I've heard of Corbin using his film on the inside of the diffuser but the outside might be better (even the light out then the film would give it a core).

I believe Gelu stated when this was first brought up that he took about 9 feet of the stuff and wrapped it around a dowel and pushed it in.
